The 30 top earning fixed speed camera sites in the West Midlands have been revealed.
Figures available have been released to the Birmingham Mail under the Freedom of Information Act. They indicate that the cameras generated 48,091 fines in 2012. This equates to more than £3.3 million.
In March 2013, in order to save money, West Midlands Police switched off all of its fixed camera sites defaulting to just mobile camera use. The remaining static cameras were those run by the Highways Agency.
In 2014 the number of speeders caught reduced to 32,748. Police now say that they will be reactivating seven fixed speed cameras in their area.
Road safety group campaigner Rod King commented : "Whilst speed is only a cause of some collisions it is almost always the reason why a collision was not able to be avoided or the consequences in terms of casualties reduced."
He continued: "Speed cameras have an important role to play in ensuring that we all comply with limit for which we are licensed to drive. Those exceeding those limits have no-one to blame except themselves."

Interesting - but these aren't all fixed camera sites. Nos 11, 17, 19 & 22 definitely don't have fixed cameras - but they are mobile sites. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D

The original article doesn't say they are all fixed sites, just "The top 30 speed camera sites...". And they are ordered by offences, rather than earnings.
