Hi all

I couldn't find a better forum for a general satnav use question hence putting it here. Apologies if it's in the wrong place.

I'm going to do around 1000 miles in the North east of America in the summer driving between Toronto and Washington DC. Does anyone what the SP is on Satnav mounting laws in the States. I have found some specific references to Orlando and California which say that you can't have such things mounted on the windscreen. Does this sort of thing apply everywhere and what do folks use there please? I've seen dashboard style beanbag! mounts with varying reviews as to their success and I must admit that I think a satnav stuck high on one of those in the centre of the car dash (and how good are they?) would be more distracting that something mounted in the outside lower corner of the drivers side windscreen. However, what I'm looking for is the best legal solution to carry my TomTom given that my Brodit mount won't be compatible with ANother hire car I will get. NB. I do already have the correct maps so it seems mad not to take advantage of them and take the unit with me.

I'd appreciate knowledge of situation and constructive/best, ideally tried and tested solutions. Many thanks

There's no hard and fast answer I'm afraid as it varies from state to state. You may get a good response here http://forums.gpsreview.net/categories/gps-discussions which is mainly a US site.
