Can anyone suggest a 5inch screen replacement for my Go 720.
I am at the moment playing with a Garmin nuvi 2547 but regrettably I feel it is not in the same league as the Go 720.
I do hope I am not asking for the impossible
Regards to all

IMHO there is NO suitable 5" TomTom replacement for the 720. The new ones are so disenfranchised they are not a suitable replacement for the 720.

Thanks for the replies.
Dennis I think you have confirmed my thoughts.
Perhaps I will send the Go720 to the SatNav repair shop to have the failing memory attended to.

What "failing memory"
Maybe just a clearflash or reinstal?

The memory is not happy at all. The 720 will now only boot with an external sd card inserted.
My pc will not recognize the tomtom and I can only update maps etc by using a card reader.

Hardly a show-stopper then? Quite a few x20/x30's only run from SD cards but....sfw?

Surely a good SD card will run faster than the internal memory, so why change back?

I'm in the same boat re: failed memory on a GO720. But it's been running happily on an SD card for years now.

As for replacements, look at the scond hand market, if you want a 5 inch screen you might like the Start 20 or 25 or the Go1005

Just out of interest what do you find the 2547 lacks compared with your GO720?

Not sure if this is against forum policy - pls delete if it is:

But to the topic of 720, I have a Go720 Europe I'll sell if anyone is interested.

It had to be repaired (TT's stupid power wiring) and took so long I bought 1005 (Lifetime maps) in meantime. Now down to 1 car, so don't need 2 TT's.

PM me.

Hi Sussamb

I feel that my disappointment is part of a steep learning curve as I have had my go720 since they arrived on the scene and I have now got fed up of paying for map updates.

My main beefs are:- No Bluetooth, No Mp3 player, Quite complicated to load PGPSW speed cameras, No easy provision for adding Custom POI's, Inability to customize the display screen.

There are possibly others but I have yet to find them.

On the Plus side the 5" display seems to be good, and the routings given are fine.

My 720 works fine on an external sdhc card so I will run them both alongside each other for a while.
I have no need to acquire another 720.

Hope this is of some help

If you bought a 1005, you actually DO need 2 TTs! I run 3 and I wouldn't dare rely on running only one by itself.

Garmin have dropped mp3 capability due to pretty much no demand these days. Bluetooth is avilable on the 2597, normally the third 9 signifies BT capability, so you chose the wrong version of that model Crying or Very sad

I'm not sure what customisation of the screen you are after but you can make certain adjustments, I have the 2508 and now have the screen set the way I like it. Is there anything in particular you feel you're missing?

As for loading PGPSW cameras and POIs I'm not sure why you would be having issues, seems simple to me ... but then I don't bother with any voice warnings so it may be that that is tricky Confused

Hi sussamb
Many thanks indeed for your input.
I have to say that the more I use the Garmin the better I like it.
The customization that I miss is the ability to change the display colours and themes, the inability to display the arrival time at the destination, the fact that the speed limit on the A6 in Forton Lancs is shown as 60mph when it changed to 50mph app.15 months ago, TomTom got this right in the first map update after the change.
Another big omission in my opinion is the lack of a built in fm transmitter to relay music and instructions through the cars ICE system.
I am going to persevere but will be running the G0720 and the Nuvi2549 together.
