Sorry I cant find a simple explanation through searching.

Have just bough my first smartphone - second-hand HTC One X - and want to use it as a GPS with the PGPS app to give camera alerts.

If I have CoPilot running and the app in the background while working offline, as I do not have a data package, will the app provide both voice and on-map alerts or just voice alerts.

I currently have a TomTom 25 with the database on it and it works perfectly and I am hoping that by using Copilot and the app on the phone I will get the same warning info - icons and voice.

Would be great if someone can confirm if it does work this way off-line before I commit to purchase.

Thanks

Hi Vidman. I recently experimented with the CoPilot free trial. I can confirm that is possible to import PgpsW speedCams into the CoPilot Android app...

See here

Its a bit convoluted but I guess it would become second nature after a few attempts.

I would suggest running CamerAlert in the background at the same time though.

Thanks for that I had assumed you only needed to run the App in the background to get the 'on-map' alerts. The import procedure looks longwinded and complicated

If the PGPS app is just running in the background I assume it would give voice warnings but have no icons appearing on the map, is this a viable way of using the app.

Would it be better to for the TomTom GPS app? would that give me on-map warnings if the PGPS app is just running in the background or would I also have to import the DB into the Tomtom app.

You would also need to load the OV2 files into the TT app. I'm at least one, possibly two, versions behind on the TT app and it is still possible for me to do this.

You would need to wait for a member with the latest version of the TT Android app to confirm that this is still possible and it has not become one of the "Features" TT seem so keen on withdrawing.

Correct. And it will pop up a warning on the screen even when in the background

What map? If its running in the background there is no map, and the map tiles are not downloaded so it uses no data

Yes, Run your nav soft in the foreground for maps and directions and keep CA in the background for cam warnings. The CA app will not integrate with any nav soft. But obviously the PGPSW camera database will, depending on the nav soft that you are running.

If you had a data allowance on your phone, you would be correct. The CamerAlert can make use of GoogleMAps either full time, only when near or not at all.

My advice would be to download the CamerAlert app (it's free for the first use) and play around with it for a while until you work out the best app to supplement it with.

Hi, like AliOnHols I have the latest TT Android 1.3 app running in foreground, I drop the pgpsw cameralert ov2 and bmp files into the UK & Ireland map folder on TT android app. I run CamerAlert in background with audio alerts and the pgpsw camera warning icons appear accurately on the TT navigation on the screen.
