OMG it works!!!

Yes folks, we can now put the camera database onto the Renault R-Link TomTom built in system. What's more, the OGG files work too! So I now have grandchildren's voices from years ago announcing my cameras (and the downloaded OGG files with the database should work too.

Of course, that means I have to spend half a day every Wednesday gettin g my clunker of a windows laptop to do the business, but Hey Ho.

YEE-HAAAAA!!

My major problem was that my laptop is so clunky it takes ages to do anything (INCLUDING simply starting up!!). Then it downloaded the program in zip format I know not where, so I had to 'search' for it - even then it didn't tell me where it was, just gave me an icon to click and make it go.

But it was pretty straightforward, some different names to what he said, but that's understandable, plus he said Europe folder whereas I only have UK&ROI. After that it was simply Manage POIs, Show on Map, then Warn when near. I was so pleased when it worked with the OGG files - I don't use the database on any TT device, as I use CamerAlert on my iPhone, except on a spare GO520 I do use the special files issued for us Verifiers/Moderators to scan and verify submitted cameras, and for those files I recorded my own OGG files spoken by Vera's grandchildren a long time ago. Getting those files onto the R-Link complete with children's voices is a triumph. And the camera icons came up beautifully large and clear - I don't know which it is using as I have both normal and double sized ones loaded.

There are a number of other TomTom built in satnavs (with other names) so I'm wondering if this method might be applied to those. I simply don't have any other system, but if I did, I'd be tempted to simply install this software and see if it worked with them. It also crosses my mind that if somebody can come up with this, maybe it would be worth looking to see if there might be any possibility of a similar job for the latest TomToms which are also unusable.

And of course, it means any other OV2 and BMP files for POIs can also be loaded onto the R-Link.

Ordered my Kadjar today and there is one at the docks, so could get it in 2 weeks. Just wondering if Dennis was still happy with his new camera alerts??

Yes, I'm OK with the result. For me, the fact that I can't use my Mac is a right royal pain and my windows laptop is such a clunker that updating every Wednesday is a complete back breaking trial. I would hope that with a decent windows machine it could be easier.

I don't know - I've never bothered because they are such an inoffensive little anonymous beep that they are not worth bothering with.

Good luck with getting the latest map guarantee to work! What map have you got (latest I have is UK&ROI v955, there is a 960 for Europe)?

Updated my pgpsw database yesterday and it took me nearly two hours!

Mines showing MM204 9.12. 80642449 Mar31 2016.

Trouble is I haven't got the folders TOMTOM on my stick. Just got the 3 standard ones LOST.DIR R-LINK and System Volume Information

When I got the car I am sure everything updated from the car itself and not through the memory stick. When I use the Rlink shop and toolbox it doesn't give me a map update.

What stick? Have they changed to a memory stick - mine is an SD card and all I can read on it with normal computer stuff is filenames, which cannot be opened. Card is read only.

I should imagine the usb stick does exactly the same as the sd card. But for some reason when I used the stick in the car it didn't back up the tomtom files, or are the tomtom files on the stick/card from updating via the computer then when you update to the car you update the map AND the camera alerts?

Either way how do I get tomtom files on my stick?

Like I said, if they've changed it, I don't think I can help. I can only refer you to the write up about R-Link Explorer. See if that works for you.
