I have the TomTom Andriod App on my mobile phone. This was selected because I didn't need an active mobile data connection to use it. In some rural areas obtaining a mobile signal can be problematical.

I tend to use my Android phone as a phone most of the time turning off 3G, GPS, WiFi etc. to extend the battery life from around 1 day with them on to 4 days with them off hence I rarely connect to any data services.

Twice now I have been unable to start TT. Not because the TT application has failed but because “Google Play” has insisted I haven't got a valid licence to use it. However when next connecting via a mobile data link the licence is immediately available and I can start TT.

Luckily in both the above cases I've been at home when the application block occurred and I had a data connection to re-enable it but I can foresee at some time I'm going to attempt to start TT far from home in a location without a reliable mobile signal or maybe abroad where the mobile data will cost £1000s per minute.

Does anyone know of a way of stopping Google Play complaining about a non-valid licence for a legitimately purchased TT App? Or, is there a way to override the licence message and stopping TT from immediately closing down?

That certainly should not happen. I would suggest copy and pasting the TT map folder/files to a secure location, un-installing the TT app then re-installing it. Re-associate the maps to save on the big download.

I don't have the app, but I think I remember this being discussed soon after it was launched. If I remember correctly, it attempts to "phone home" every time you start the app, but only gives you the warning after n unsuccessful connections. I think the only way to get round this is to make sure you allow it to make a successful connection e.g. over your home wifi before a trip. I'm not sure how it's supposed to deal with a 6 month safari in Outer Mongolia!

The license check is every 100 startups or every 30 days, whichever comes first.

Your can force a check and reset the timer by doing "check for updates" in settings.
