|
|
Hello all,
It's been quite a while since I was a regular poster and reader on here so apologies if this has been covered somewhere and I have missed it.
It looks as if the speaker on my GO 720 has died after about five and a half years of use. Time for a replacement.
I'm looking at the GO LIVE 2050. Unfortunately the Tomtom site doesn't have an explicit answer to this question: does it accept third party POIs?
If there are any other comments about the 2050 I'd be grateful to hear them.
cheers
edit: it appears that the 2050 is marketed in the UK as the 1005. |

You can add 3rd party pois to that model. As a Nav 3 device, the user has no access to the file system. It doesn't use Home 2 as the 720 did but, rather, requires the MyTomTom web interface (which you get at tomtom.com/getstarted).
Once it's installed and the device connected to the computer, there will be a desktop's MyTomTom icon in the notification area. There you'll find a link called 'Add Community content'. Click on it and a new web page opens where you can add custom poi files from your computer, other map colour schemes, images, etc. _________________ David |

Thanks for those replies.
Is it true, as first reported, that the new Tomtom models about to come out do not offer 3rd party POI support? If so that makes the choice easy. |

The initial application with the Nav 4 devices will not allow 3rd party poi files to my understanding. That doesn't preclude the possibility of that functionality being added at a later time. _________________ David |
