Although I do not have a TT Nav3 device I do have the latest version of the Android TT app. The app does not allow for the creation of itineraries but it does allow 5 "via" points on a route, something which I believe it shares with the Nav3 TT's.

On the app, these "via" points appear to get optimised. Are they also optimised on the Nav3 PND's?

Edit, I meant Nav3 not Nav4, now corrected.

On NAV3 devices you only get THREE waypoints before the final destination.

It does make SOME attempt to sort the waypoints as you add them into a sensible order, but I think it just uses distance as the crow flies, and it's easy to fool into making bad decisions.

That's a pity, I thought TT were giving us an improvement for a moment back there. I'll check to see if the sorting on the app is purely by distance or by direction also.

Thanks for the reply Andy_P, much appreciated.

They HAVE given you an improvement - they've removed all that silly stuff with itineraries, so you don't have to bother with them any longer.

They've made loads of improvements over the years. Probably one of the most significant being that they don't last as long so you can justify buying a new one far more often.

Edit to add... For example, look at this poor guy. He's still on the ancient GO300 he had in 2007 and six years later thinks he'll replace the battery. If only he'd waited and got a 1000, he could be already in line for buying a new model.

You should really be sorry for my brother-in-law - he's got my original Classic GO (with original battery) - and can only Navigate from A-B (and do 48 waypoint itineraries). Shocked

They just don't know what missing features they're missing! Laughing

Hi

Dont know if this will work with everything but TYRE says it will now work with the devices that use Mytomtom to load Itineraries to Tomtom PNDs

Think this happened as they have a deal with Tomtom who now distribute the TYRE software with the new Rider device

Hi exportman.
It's all smoke and mirrors....
There's nothing Tyre can do to add the missing Itinerary functionality to the new models, it's simply not possible.

What they have come up with as a WORKROUND, is to turn a route devised in Tyre into a LARGE number of POI points (upto every 50metres or so) along the roads.
when that is displayed on screen you can see a "ribbon" of icons, which you are supposed to follow manually.

But that means you won't even get audible or visual navigation instructions or ALG etc. at junctions, because you are not actually following a route at all.

I guess the good news is that it shows TT must now recognise the demand for this feature.

Er no.... TT didn't come up with it as a workround at all, the people at TYRE did.

TT have never even admitted that leaving off itinerary planning was a problem at all, let alone a being a major marketing blunder on their entire new range.

However, they have APPARENTLY promised that some form of Itinerary planning with loadable and savable routes will reappear on the soon to be launched NAV4 models.

We wait and see....

Just tested my TT Android app and it definitely optimises the "Via" points irrespective of distance. It lists them in the most sensible order to drive. Huzzah! TT are learning.

I did get the number of available Vias wrong though. The order is -- present location, four vias and destination.

Doh! thought that I'd try a more complex route just to make sure.

Barcelona to Girona via four villages around Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. This was the result for the vias --

As you can see, definitely not optimised and Vias#1, 2 & 3 missed completely, just like the old days. Crying or Very sad

Nice one AliOnHols, I bet you had the same difficulties as I did, trying to work out the best experiments to show what the routing does! Laughing

I ended up using a long straight road near me as the main start and destination, and adding points on various side-roads as the vias.

. Agreed, It's not so easy trying to randomly insert locations when you only have three or four options.

I was happy with my initial, local test though. That worked every time, it even re-optimised the whole route when I deleted a via and added a new one.
