Please accept my appologies for the incorrect quote. I made a mistake in editing. I will go back and correct it.
No tongue in cheek at all. As I understand it, the camera dattabase is to make people aware of the fact that there is a camera in the vicinity and drive accordingly. If this causes people to slow down, then both the database and the camera have done their job.

Yes, speed cameras Rolling Eyes

I assume that your comment is meant tongue-in-cheek (given that you are a "Verifier" of a site whose sole purpose is to assist motorists to avoid those cameras, through the production of the Speed Camera database and the CamerAlert software)!

And please try to get your quotations correct - I never said the above.

I don't believe the purpose of this site is 'to avoid those cameras', but it is to warn you that one is around so you can check you are driving to the correct limit as signed, which is sometimes difficult given the plethora of signs on our roads today. We should all be driving within the limit, even though we may think that the posted limit, for whatever reason, is wrong.

Philip is right, there always have been drivers who ignore speed limits and only brake when they see a camera. When I started driving you always kept watch for a police car or motorbike dropping in behind you, after that you had to watch for police officers with speed guns behind trees and bus shelters etc. Now there are cameras. All camera databases make it more easy for the most irresponsible to escape detection, but they'd speed anyway.

I used to be less responsible, but I've grown up. Still I can be distracted and miss limit signs, fail to notice my speed has crept up, and sometimes just be confused by complex road signage. I have a speed warning unit [no names] and the most useful thing is that it tells me what the limit is on the road I'm driving on, though it's never 100% accurate, it's still a big help. The camera warnings are not the most important feature, but they enable me to double check my driving at the point that my speed is going to be measured.

Edit: for meaning

Edited to put this in blue so that we can recognise how important your message is. Laughing It is long gone time for all the boys to understand that it isn't big or grown up to speed. James Bond et al are fiction. Rolling Eyes

Raise the speed limit. Very Happy

It is obviously too low.

Would you drive over a cliff into the sea because a sign tells you to?

Instead of relying on signs, drivers should be able to think for themselves.

The flashing speed signs are a good idea in making people think about their speeds.

Really? Why?

I always think about my speed. I've cut too many people out of cars who have killed/maimed/injured themselves or others not to.

Part of a driver thinking as you put it is to take in everything around them, including signs. Unless of course someone is so arrogant that they believe they can simply ignore them.

I think (well, I hope) that he was joking - there was a smiley. I bet there are hundreds of school zones where there hasn't been a single child killer in years, so we should de-restrict them. (That IS a joke - subtle, as is my nature).

This time it needed subtle after you grumped about using colour to emphasise the unique importance of one's posts. Taunt

Outside schools around here you can barely get past all the parked cars on both sides of the narrow roads, and even the zigzags where the mums are parked. You have zero chance of reaching the speed limit.

Maybe Dennis was talking about our Yankee 'friends' and non-road issues?
or, maybe he has a point, just shoot anyone breaking the speed limit! Rolling Eyes
