CF Card Performance?

Hi,

I'm experiencing performance issues when I load large maps onto my CF card.

Now I'm considering getting a faster CF card and I understand they come in 12X 40X etc. versions.

My question is if anyone knows if this will make anydiffernece and if the CF card can be the bottle neck.

If there are diferences, where can I read more and also, what speed makes sence on an Ipaq 2210?

It's best to defragment the memory card you have first - most CompactFlash cards are more than fast enough to keep up with a Pocket PC's demands for maps, but fragmentation will hurt the performance with large maps.


If you do decide to buy a new card, I'd not go for the slowest, but also wouldn't bother with the fastest cards available (probably at a substantial price premium) either, as it's unlikely that the Pocket PC will make full use of the fastest available cards.

In any case, the speed referred to can be the write speed, which matters a lot for digital camera users (when trying to shoot a lot of frames in quick succession), but is largely irrelevant for most Pocket PC use. Certainly the write speed doesn't matter for navigation use.
