Hi all,

I had a small brain-wave today, which will probably not work but it's worth thinking about. I was looking at the mass of cables in my Pioneer car stereo, one of which is a "Tel" input for mobile phones. My idea is to have my GPS-enabled PocketPC connect to this Tel input, so that when CoPilot wants to give audio directions it will interupt the music on the stereo, give directions, then the music will be resumed.

Has anyone played around with this idea? I can't find out if the Tel input works like this - nor whether I could use a standard phono cable (from PocketPC to "Tel" input).

Thoughts?

Cheers

Will

i thought about this a few weeks ago as i have a pioneer with the tel input i asked my mate who works at a auto electric place and he said you can connect it up but it wont interupt you have to press the source button to telephone so only the input through that will come out of the speakers

it would be cool though if it worked

The only way to make this behave moderately automatically would be to use a circuit that senses when the Pocket PC is outputting audio (it's basically the VOX circuit known to radio amateurs and similar).

However, the lag of that circuit when added to the lag in the stereo switching over to the phone input probably makes this impractical - imagine what it would be like if the first half second of every voice command got chopped off!

Some stereos have a dedicated input for navigation systems, which you can use - but most don't.
