It may be a combination of my failing hearing and the low volume level from iPhone warnings but does the verbal alert for a 70mph mobile actually say FIFTY? Visual warning is fine.

Wonderful app folks - keep up the great work.

Hmm. Mine is fine.

Which warning are you using? I use both Pre-warning Siren and Female voice which are sufficiently lengthy to get my attention and a chance to hear what she's saying. (I do not use the Shortened warnings).

Wow! Thanks for the instant reply.

I'm using Pre-Warning=None and Shortened=On so there is opportunity to give myself a 'better' voice warning as you suggest.

Will change both of those settings and report back.

For test purposes, can you easily tell me where is the nearest mobile 70 to Macclesfield [SK10]?

Thanks again.

J18 on the M6 looks like the most probable. No need to enter the motorway system ,just drive around the roundabout of the A54 and it should trigger two alerts for mobile 70's.

Well I wouldn't fancy driving 15 miles each way just to test something like that. Take my word for it, she says 70 for the 70mph mobiles - I'm up and down the motorways like I live there, so I'd notice if they were wrong.

Just tap the box "Female voice" to hear a test of what she says, should give you a good idea of what you'll get.

Many thanks - will pay J18 a visit and report back.

Sorry, didn't answer DennisN's question as to the voice being used, although it is stated in the subject line - it's FEMALE

Don't go driving all over the countryside, believe me she says SEVENTY. Just tap the "Female voice" box for a test of her.

It was a while ago, but I was involved in sorting out the original sound files for the CamerAlert project, and IIRC, the warnings are made up of individual sections, so it chooses "static" "mobile", "redspeed" etc. and then a number "30", "40", "50" etc.

So if "Static 70" sounds OK for a fixed camera, it SHOULD be using exactly the same file for "Mobile 70". If not, it's a program glitch.

Maybe ONE particular mobile site is wrong in the database? Or are you hearing it all the time?

Andy_P - I think I've heard it on several mobile 70 locations (but please note my opening caveat that it might all be just deteriorating hearing!). Just looking on the CA map I think the last one was MOBILE:81537 on clockwise M60.

I don't recollect a static 70 so cannot comment on that.

DennisN - Thanks for the reassurance. My tap on 'Female voice' gives a plainly audible 40 warning.

I'll gratefully take your advice and change my settings to Pre-Warning=Siren and Shortened=Off, and will report back.

Thanks again.

Of course, the warnings are much plainer in the quiet of home/office etc. I have my warnings set like that because a short warning would get past me before I noticed it. The siren wakes me up and the long sentence gives me chance to get used to her voice. The volume setting on the iPhone loudspeaker seems un-get-at-able to a numpty like me, so for ages I've been using bluetooth thingies with their own volume controls to assist.

I'm now of an age where assistance with hearing is gratefully embraced! (And I don't care about passenger's sound problems - I'm set at 100% and they can lump it! Fortunately my van has few passengers).

There's a road called Jessops Underpass in Bristol - I'll swear my TomTom calls it Jessops Underpants.

I have to support JimP on this one. I have never used CamerAlert on my iPhone before as I use a Garmin normally but yesterday I drove on the A90 from Aberdeen to Dundee and back using CamerAlert and I thought I was hearing things when the female voice clearly gave fifty warnings for some, if not all, mobiles when on the 70mph A90. All fixed cameras were warned by a seventy warning.

Like JimP I'm using Pre-Warning=None and Shortened=On.

OK, needs investigating by "The Team" then. There are no 50mph mobiles on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen.

Looks like there may be something wrong with the shortened warnings for 70mph Mobiles perhaps? (70mph mobiles on mine with the full warnings are OK).

Any close by that might cause a false alert? I've had the odd 30 mph warning on the motorway before!

No, these were many 50 mph warnings as I approached many 70 mph mobile sites. I wish I had taken more notice to see if it was 100% of all sites. There is a plethora of mobile and fixed cameras of that stretch of the A90.

"The Team" looked into that but so far we cannot see any issue. All the files seem to be properly named. And if you see the 70 warning on the screen there is no way in the program code that it could be accompanied by a "50" announcement. Would it be too much to ask for a video recorded by your copilot the next time you pass these cameras?
