Today while running MemoryMap 2004 and cigar lighter charger powering the BT308 GPS and the HP1940, got a message saying: Battery Too Hot.

I obviously disconnected the charger, all still working OK

It was a hot day today, 27 degrees I think

Q1. Is this a common message? I have never seen it before.

Q2. Is it the battery, PDA or charger at fault

Years ago I had a Nokia phone battery get so hot when charging that you could not touch it, and I recall some info somewhere on the net about someone receiving a burn from a Nokia phone, and the resulting claim against Nokia

Any similar experience or ideas

When the battery charges it gets hot. When you then add some sunlight to it, it may get too hot. Interesting fact about the heat sensor though - So far I haven't heard about that. But it's nice.

i think the burn from the nokia was due to a 3rd party battery exploding while the phone was being used

I'm pretty sure Alix is right - I think the melting Nokia problems were to do with poor quality non-OEM batteries.

Sometimes systems decide a battery is too hot to charge - it can happen with a Nokia phone if it gets really hot (in these and some other circumstances you receive a "Not Charging" error when you plug in the charger).

Thanks for all this info

I guess the temperature inside the land rover went high in the hot sun, dashboard area probably the hottest Embarassed , and that is what caused the message.

Can confirm the battery in my PDA is definitely a HP original Lithium Ion 3.7v 900 mAh

I will keep an eye on it today 8O

Yes I had this a few times on my holiday in Italy. I guess the battery gets quite hot in the sun.
