Garmin Live Traffic Range?

I'm planning to replace my aged and recently broken TomTom GO 910 with an up to date unit and have been reading numerous forums. One feature I'm aiming for is the live traffic but postings such as http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=87709 are not encouraging at all. The new TomTom 820/1000 devices seem disasterous with the 750 being the preferred model at the moment from what I have read.
Is there any information available or experience to report about the current accuracy and range of the Garmin live traffic service?
I'm currently leaning towards a Garmin device if the live traffic is OK now e.g. the 2390 or one of the new 2405/2505 2012 models (http://www.garmin.com/uk/release_2012_lineup/) when they become available in the UK.
