Hi All, this is my first post, I purchased an A10, earlier in the year.
I have been given some routes in GPX/mapsource, form for Portugal this comprises of, 5 routes of about 1200 way points,to evaluate I upload one of these, and it shows up on the screen, with all the way points in place.
The problem I have is that the actual mapping on the unit for Portugal, is a gazetteer type map, with so little detail as to be virtually useless.
Satmap themselves have nothing else to offer.
The ideal would be to load some corresponding mapping of some sort, is there any available open source mapping that would run on the unit?
My only other alternative is to run a normal Sat/nav [Garmin Nuvi 1340t]alongside the satmap, that can zoom in to the detail level required to show the local unsurfaced roads.
I have tried loading the files onto the Garmin, but it doesn't want to play ball.
You're s in anticipation

It's only possible to use Satmap's own map I'm afraid. |

It will cost you, but there's always Satmaps' custom option ? They made me a long French Trail from data I supplied.

Thanks guys, I thought that was probably the case, and not me being the usual old duffer.
The tracks were create on Garmin 60 Csx,so purchasing one of those would be the best, but also most expensive option, unless you guys know of a more reasonable alternative unit.
The Trail option I assume will be just that, with little scope of deviation from the set route?

No, I believe that basically they will scan in digitally any map you can get hold of...I walked with InnTravel a couple of years back, in the Douro Valley, Portugal and the maps were very detailed that were supplied...Satmap said to send them the bit that I was interested in and they would put it on an SD card...in the event I didn't, but did have a 'One Off' trail made of a French Route....albeit on a 1:25 map supplied by them. |

Hmme, I believe the military hold all the detailed maps, that they don't release.
The centred maps could prove costly as was previously mentioned for a top to bottom map of Portugal.
There is stuff on Mapsource, that would load onto another unit
I did have Garmin NUVI 550, but it went walk about of my sons bike, which is a shame as that would have probably done the job.
Many thanks

I spoke to the mapping department at SATMAP today, and though they were very helpful confirming that If I could get a scanned map to them, they would be able to convert that to a plug and play card, at a cost, of several hundred £, for the amount of mapping I will require, so that's that avenue closed off.
Is any one able to recommend a Garmin device of a lower spec/cost, than the 60Scx but still able perform adequately for the task?
Regards
