Taking my cue from the Aldi advert, I asked for socks.

He brought a giant Toblerone - with my dental arrangements, it'll take me a day just to suck one triangle to oblivion!Crying

I didn't ask for anything and he brought me a helicopter! Wanted one for ages, well chuffed. Very Happy

Between you and me, I actually got a train-set. I'm quite pleased, so senility is obviously gaining ground.

Crashed the helicopter last night (into a table) stripped some teeth off one of the gears. Waiting (impatiently) for delivery of a set of new gears. Sad

The helicopter we bought for grandson was flown expertly by his father, until the wind blew it over the fence and stuck it in a tree. We managed to retrieve it with four bean sticks strapped together, with my fish net on the end (the alternative being to send grandson over the 6ft high fence to challenge the Rotweiler for it). Father subsequently (at their home) wrecked a couple of delicate Christmas tree baubles.

You should have gone to Maplins - they were doing 3 for 2 - we got two helicopters and a Ferrari. Laughing

What did you get? If it's a proper one then get used to many crashes and many rebuilds before you get the hang of it.

Great fun but very steep learning curve!

Mine's a easy double bladed one. Gave up with a second hand proper one, think the gyro was bust.

Syma S107G. Not a "proper" one, 3 channels, indoor only, but great fun now that I've replaced one of the drive gears. One of the best toys I've had for years (I'm 49). It seems to survive some fairly heavy crashes provided that I've got the power off by the time that it hits the ground, wall, ceiling or other obstacle.

Need another one to fly whilst this one is charging, it takes over an hour to charge up (on USB) for a 5 minute flight. I think it might charge faster using a plug-in charger rather than the computer USB port but I haven't got a plug in USB charger to try (yet).

Grandson's father has now wrecked several delicate Christmas tree baubles and sundry other decorations. He's also seriously scratched the wall mounted telly. He wouldn't let grandson play with helicopter in the house for fear he'd damage things. Rolling Eyes

Ah nice, yes, co-axial. Great intro and relatively stable so much more fun!

I started out with one of these. Very difficult to control, took me quite a few weeks to master hover and months to actually fly even to a basic level.

Also got a much smaller indoor one which allows me to practice and improve my control. Still have regular crashes and have learnt to keep a stock of the most common parts, flybars, rotor blades, motors and skids!

Yes very stable until it gets near the floor or another object, then it's own turbulence affects the flight so precision landings are a challenge.

I like the look of your 4 channel models. Flying seems to be adictive so I may progress onto something like that when finances improve.
