The latest version of CamerAlert (version 1.3.2.495) is now available from the Android Market.

this update fixes a bug which causes the app to crash when being brought to the foreground in Android OS version 1.5 and 1.6. It also has all the fixes and features detailed below:

This updates adds support for external Bluetooth GPS devices, and implements a fix to prevent the Android OS shutting it down when running in the background for 30 minutes. We have also added support for 140 and 160 KPH cameras that have been installed in Dubai.

To use CamerAlert with an external BT GPS device all you need to do is to install, configure and connect the BT GPS. You will need to configure Once this has been confirmed to be working you simply connect the BT GPS and then run CamerAlert.

The full list of Changes in version 491 are:

New functionality:
- Added the ability to use an external Bluetooth GPS device. Simply configure and connect to the BT GPS before running CamerAlert.
- Added a chimes warning sound.
- Implemented an additional warning for mobile cameras
- Added warnings for 140 and 160 KPH cameras
- Made the Samsung Spica GPS workaround optional configured in the preferences
- Vibrate the device if in call when camera comes into range

Fixes:
- added code to prevent the OS shutting down the app after 30 minutes in the background
- Corrected back button in main display
- Stabalised the overspeed duration setting
- Fixed the media player null pointer exception
- Keep reported speed consistent in the application
- Fixed multiple map issue
- numerous small fixes

Hi Mike

I am using version .491. That is listed as still being the latest one on the Market, dated 30 September. Also the list of improvements and fixes etc for this new version seem to be the same or similar to the list for .491. Is that correct?

The Android Market has not been updated by Google yet. This version is the same as 491 with the exception of a fix for Android 1.6 and 1.6 users. There was a bug bringing the app to the foreground that we have fixed.

Mike - thanks for that. However here is a little problem for you.

Last night when I looked on "my apps" in the Market app CamerAlert was not in the list for updates at the top of the list. However when I scrolled down the list of my apps every time I got to CamerAlert the Market app crashed. I did it enough times to realise it happened at exactly the same moment, i.e. just as CamerAlert began to appear on the list at the bottom of my screen.

This morning CamerAlert is on the list of apps to update and Market scrolls fine without crashing. Not a coincidence I think. Looks like there is some anomaly with how Market and CamerAlert acts together in these circumstances.

Finally, for a future update, when I run CamerAlert in the background I would like visual overspeed warnings (the speed flashing on the screen like it does now) but no sound alert. Would it be possible to include a "no sound" option in the overspeed warning list please? "None" just switches it off altogether.

Many thanks

Hi Mike, forgive me if I have posted this to the wrong section. I have started to use the .495 version on HTC Desire with 2.3.3 Android. The problem I seem to have is with the Average Speed indicator on SPECS cameras, seems to be accurate for a number of seconds then indicates VERY large numbers for example 945 mph this is not a constant value and changes to what seems like random speed values. The indicated speed seems to be ok , but the average calculation will remain incorrect until leaving the SPECS zone.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks - Steve

I had this months ago and did not know what it was. As luck would have it I installed 'Journey Pro', a UK public transport nav app and it fixed my random speed issues. Bizarre. Re installing CamerAlert hadn't worked but this did. Worth a shot, it's a free app. You can probably uninstall it after.

I had this too, and started a thread claiming the land speed record (900+ mph) on the 50mph section of the M25. I am glad that it was not just me. Maybe we should all post our fastest speed to see who the winner is? Wink
