I have a tomtom xl whick i purchased Nov. 2010. and some how I managed to damage/corrupt the files. I tried restoring from backup... I had copied all files to my PC so i tried reseting and transferring the files back to the tomtom and nothing.

I dont care for the tomtom anymore BUT i am able to access it as a flash drive (very expensive 1GB flashdrive ) Very Happy and I was wondering if there are any programs i can install to take advantage of the screen and touch capabilities....

I am ope to any suggestions... I am currently running Portable Apps but it is like a flashdrive, i want something more interesting....

Connect the TomTom to the PC then format the drive using FAT32 don't use the "Quick Format" option, once thats complete copy all your backup files and folders straight to the drive letter associated with the device - Mike

hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply, I actually tries this a couple of times... I formatted using:

- quick format - transfer files
- full format - transfer files
- CMD format drive - transfer files
- linux formatted from Ubuntu - tranfered file
- diskcheck found no problems
- disk defragment found nothing

anywho... i tried it all, except calling TOMTOM which i am not about to do, dot have the receipt, was never registered to my knowledge, and most likely it was me the one that damaged it... BUT im ok with that, i now have a SONY NV-U44 (discontinued a long time ago) and if SONY would have continued making this GPS it would have been way better than anything TOMTOM made...

BUT yeah if anyone knows of anycool hacking tricks PLEASE let me know...

BTW i hate how I we purchase hundred dollar electronics and we are not able to or allowed to make software (third party) changes to it, (Im just a little frustrated with all electronic companies, i have a blackberry and I have so many ideas for it, but its completely protected, my computer wont even read it...) Twisted Evil
