TomTom have announced the forthcoming roll-out of new search and social-media features for their LIVE enables products.

A raft of new search features will include Expedia, TripAdvisor and Yelp, enabling access to user reviews. You will be able to access impartial reviews on restaurants, hotels, theatres etc. Once you have read the reviews and decided on your destination you can quickly request a route taking advantage of HD Traffic (where available).

TomTom are also integrating social-media functionality with the addition of Twitter support. Users will have the option to tweet their destination to followers complete with an ETA. Concerns over safety have been taken into account, the message is pre-configured and the ETA is updated as the journey progresses. Twitter functionality is optional and can be enabled/disabled as desired.

TomTom have a demo vide available on YouTUBE here. The new services will be rolling our first in the US, Germany and New Zealand this October.

Or they may do it the Garmin way, and charge for each service individually and monthly... or it may be just included in what they already charge to make their PNDs more attractive to end users over smartphone integrated apps

As long as google is the same as before ..but twitter ... I'd say rather bring back some of the useful features they used to have ....You think a company like this would think of their customers and do a servery or something like that

We worry about mobile phone use and texting whilst driving ...... And now we'll have to worry about Tweeting!

Not a move forward in road safety!

As a biker I worry about anything that can disrupt the concentration of cage drivers.

Oh Yeuch! Why, oh Why must Tom Tom jump on the Social Media ladder. It is very unsafe potentially. Witness the guy recently convicted of talking on one mobile whilst driving and texting on another at the same time. 'Nuff said.

As a biker and fellow motorist I completely agree. Governments put legislation in place to reduce the use of things like mobile phones whilst driving and to reduce the number of related accidents and deaths due to their use and now manufactures are producing similarly distracting devices that can add to the further distraction of drivers? Shocked

I sincerely hope TomTom program such services in a way as that they can not be used in any capacity whilst the vehicle is moving.
