Hello all

Just wondering if anybody knows why Multimap.com would give a travel time of 1hr 20 and 54 miles compared to Tom Tom of 1 hr 40 and 72 miles.

The journey is from RG12 2RX to West Wittering.

Multimap gives an option of Shortest and quickest. I did quickest on both and the above was the result, but if i changed Tom Tom to shortest it says that shortest is not a good option for long journeys !! although it does come down to 56 miles but also goes upto 2 hrs + on the journey tim

Is Multimap better at setting routes ?

Thanks

Paul

More likely, it's just that TT and Multimap uses different speeds for calculating ETA. They have no way of knowing the exact speed of every road, so they take an average. In TT you can specify the different speeds for different types of roads.

Hope that makes sense.

Oops, didn't notice the difference in miles at first. That's down to the route calculation. I don't know the area it routes you through, but there must be some shortcut that Multimap knows which TT doesn't. Try comparing the maps and see if the routes make sense. If TT sends you through towns and Multimap doesn't, there's the culprit. The other way around, maybe TT disregards towns and prioritizes freeways. Maybe someone else could shed light on this.

Having a quick look at the route, it seems that Tom Tom uses more main roads than Multi Map.

Multimap uses the A286 alot more for this route.

I am aware that you can adjust the speeds in Tom Tom, but I have found and I believe many other people have found that the defaults are about as good as it gets.

Just put the route into Autoroute, and using the same defaults as Tom Tom 3, I get 58.1 miles in 1 hour 23 minutes (Quickest) and 54 miles 2 hours (Shortest). The shortest takes you mostly on the A286.
