I am a long distance lorry driver and need a HGV sat nav as I am getting fed up with my current tomtom sending me near low bridges and weight restrictions.

I am looking at the Snooper 7000 or a Tomtom 7100 Truck.

Has anyone got one and if so what do they think?

Also are you able to i,port your own POI files?

Many thanks

Mark

Mark
Never used either, I still use a TT 720 Go and put an 8GB SD card in it then install the Europe_Truck navcore and UK/Europe Map and POI's onto the SD Card, with the card in the Go 720 will boot from the card. Best of both and cheaper in the long run.

Pray tell, where do you (legally!) get hold of the Truck maps to download and put on your own SD card?

I know Truck maps for some "normal" TomTom models are available on SD card (eg from here) but they are not cheap! (£168 inc VAT).

I've never seen them available for download from TomTom unless maybe you already have a business account. Their Truck website says

Buy maps in a bulk

Brand new maps for all your drivers. Available now via your local reseller.

TomTom WORK

Please contact us and we will recommend the most appropriate reseller/distributor/installer to meet your requirements. For this you can also fill out our sales contacs or request demo form.

The nearest reseller for the UK is listed as "Alfa GPS, Suur-Patarei 18a-6, EE-10415, Tallinn" wherever that is!

I don't recall saying anything about downloading from TomTom or anywhere else.
I bought it on SD Card for slightly less than you quoted and copied it to a larger SD Card to get all the POI's, Speed cams, Low Bridges and narrow roads on.
It updates via TomTom Home for Mapshare files, etc,

Was just pointing out a cheaper option than buying a dedicated Unit when you already have a working unit.

From what I can find on the TomTom Forums Re a 750.

You can get truck maps for any x20, x30 and x40 device from companies like TTInterlink without a Webfleet contract.
However, from what I have heard, the x50 is not compatible with the Truck SD card.

The reason I assumed they must be downloaded is that I thought I'd read that maps bought from TomTom on SD card are locked to that specific card and therefore they cannot not be copied to a different/larger card (otherwise they would be easy to pirate).

Maybe we should continue this part of the discussion in the mods forum?
