My 930T spent most of yesterday rebooting itself and freezing and needing to be reset. This started after I had to use the bluetooth link to my phone as my headset has died. Today, after putting in a destination, it plots a route and the displays this error message:-

"unable to store map settings, file access error"

Any ideas or suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

Try running the Clear Flash tool from here:

http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8324/kw/clear%20flash

Run it three times. You don't get much user feedback when it's running, but it does just by clicking 'install'.

Sounds like the MapSettings.cfg file has got corrupted. The file lives in your "Western and Central Europe" map folder (or whatever yours is called).

Its a fairly common thing... mine did it when I updated to v870 maps and none of the usual tricks worked to save the settings I'd laboriously entered (mainly for speed camera warnings), so I had to just delete it and re-enter them all.

You MIGHT be able to rescue it by connecting the device to TomTom Home, going to the "Operate my Go" emulator page and using the PC to ADD a new favourite.

That sometimes works, but if not you'll just need to delete the MapSettings.cfg file using Windows Explorer

If you delete that file, a new "fresh one" will be created when the unit is next switched on.
You will lose any Favourites you've entered as well as the recent destinations list and maybe your Home location. So if you want to keep any of those, make a new user-POI category on the machine and temporarily re-save the locations you want to keep in there.

Attach your TT to your PC.

Look in "My Computer" and right click on your TT drive.

A box will open.

Right click on "Properties"

Click on "Tools"

Under "Error-checking" click on " Check now"

A box will open.

Put a check mark in both options.

"Automatically fix file system errors"

"Scan for and attenpt recovery of bad sectors"

Now click start.

When the process is done your TT should work correctly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies.

After a restart and a new destination it seems to be behaving itself again.

Fingers crossed.
