This to me is a very fare price. I do not want, and will not have ad-supported sat-nav data on my dash
If you don't think it is a fare price, my advise is to stop complaining and move to another provider. That way you will either be proved right, or find that their charge was worth while

But TT have (are) investing in the technology to not just collect and provide the data - but to best understand it too
But they are quite happy to receive one third of the money from iPhone customers *for the same service* so why aren't they charging iPhone customers more money to invest in future technology?
Anyway it's bad business practice to charge extra for future R&D investment. That's why your profits are for. Don't make current customers pay for a product they don't own!
Is it fair that people who have invested more money in a TomTom PND are charged three times as much for the same service?
It's like asking you to take a pay cut in your job so that they can give more money to your colleagues!

Then I must have imagined the dragon's den tv show, and venture capitalist companies are a figment of my imagination! Or maybe as a small business owner I live in utopia? I know full well that my current customers would be mightily annoyed if they found out that a proportion of the charges they paid were actually to subsidise the work I was doing for someone else...
If you have an idea for a startup, you beg/borrow/steal to get your idea off the ground. Sure, you may add a little extra on top to account for version 2 of your widget, but that would apply to all customers!

Yes I know that life isn't fair. TomTom will think it isn't fair when they start haemorrhaging customers and lose people that have been loyal to them for a decade ... oh wait that has already happened and their share price is in the gutter compared to what it used to be. The best thing to fix that is NOT to rip off those still using your products!

But the market doesn't stand it any more. We're no longer blinded by ignorance, we have the Internet and can see what other countries pay, or what other companies charge... And companies that actively charge three times more for the same product depending upon what device you own (and ironically charge more to direct customers than indirect ones) will find themselves out of business.
For 69p I have downloaded an app for my phone that gets traffic updates and can plan routes around them. I think it's a better investment than spending £48 for another year of poor service from TomTom...

Hi Mike
The line rental & data costs will have all been paid for up front as part of the sim activation - this cost will have been factored in to the cost of the device that I bought, as there is no guarantee that I will extend the services & voda won't keep sims live forever if they can kill them (the sim in the PND doesn't stop working as soon as the live services expires).
Even if there was bad planning at TomTom and they have to pay to keep the sim live if you extend the live services, it would cost them no more than £5 per sim per year.
Given that Apple take a £7 cut from the £23 iPhone traffic charge, having both charges for the same services at a £23 price point would make sense. TomTom still make a bit extra out of the PND crowd as they're not paying apple 30% of every direct subscription.
Imagine going to McDonalds and having a different price for a burger depending on whether you walk through the doors or use the drive through!

Thats competition for you, and you do pay more in a Motorway Service Station or on-site McDonalds than in their regular stores. Different costs apply, and different (less) competition
TomToms share price isn't falling because of a loss of market share, but because the market (for PNDs) has / is being eroded by a) widespread existing userbase and b) smartphones with satnav apps for infrequent users _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

What happened to all the cheap Live Services cards?
TomTom official site seems to be cheapest now, with external sources selling at crazy prices like £70 _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,
Garmin 2548LMT-D; 2599LMT-D
At £27.54 including PP, I suppose you're a premium for the shorter period. I'm a bit confused by the RRP and the Saving!
At the moment, TomTom are asking for £47.50 for the Annual Subscription!
