I am a happy user of CamerAlert for Android and think it works very well indeed.
However I also use my 'droid for listening to music or audio books while I am driving and there is a problem with the relative volumes of the two apps as they both use the same "output" from the 'droid

When CamerAlert issues a warning sound on approaching a speed camera, it comes through at the general "Media Volume" that is set on the device which means it can be VERY loud.

Is there a way of adding a volume control to the app so that I can set it to a sensible level?

Thanks

But if your music is already loud then surely it'd make sense to have the alerts as loud? Sudden lowering of volume can, in my experience, be as 'uncomfortable' as sudden increase...

I think you're missing the point. All I am looking for is some control over the relative levels - most audio books for example (unlike music) are not "Normalized" to within 1 dB of absolute maximum, but the alerts are, and so when you have the audio book loud enough to combat road noise, the alerts come through at levels loud enough to make you jump.

I would just like to be able to adjust the level from the app to avoid this.

There would be no "Sudden Lowering of Volume" as you suggest because the audio streams are all coming from the same source - Media - and are mixed together.

You'll have to forgive me being pedantic about this, but I am an audio engineer and not being able to balance the sound is irritating!

Ah yes, I've got ya now!

+1 from me then Smile

Obviously we would only be able to control CamerAlert's audio level and I think, if possible, it should be added to both Android and iOS versions.

The volume control I wished for did appear (some time ago!), in the form of "Custom Warning Volume" in the Advanced Settings dialogue.
However it does not really perform nicely. It does achieve a variable level for the warning volume, but it does this by adjusting the entire "Media" output from the device.
Referring back to my original post - I use the phone to listen to Audio Books - this "dimming" of the entire Media stream means the I can't hear the book while the warning is sounding.

I now use Waze for navigating and occasionally Freenav as well (when there is no data) and both of these apps have their own volume controls that only affect the audio from that app so I can hear the Nav instructions mixed with my book, which is fine.

Would it be possible to get Cameralert to behave this way, and also perhaps offer an option to route the audio out of the Left or Right Channels only, so that it is easier to recognise?

I think this actually depends on the audio app rather than CamerAlert. For example I listen to a lot of podcasts using PocketCasts and with this the audio is paused for CamerAlert sounds where as Google Music app 'dims' the audio.
