A new report claims that Satnav is deemed more important than CD players by UK fleet drivers.

A survey of 1,106 customers of the Fuelcard Company has reported that 42 per cent regarded their satnav as their most important in-vehicle accessory with mobile phone hands-free kits coming in second with 25 per cent - apparently in that position (and presumably growing) due to legal restrictions on mobile phone use.

Although not reported, one might assume that one of the reasons for the satnav's popularity would be its inclusion of speed camera alerts.

With attribution to ownership of smart and touchscreen phones, other recent research, by Halfords, reported that the number of drivers using social networks while driving doubled in the last year. 41 percent also admitting they had accepted a phone call in their vehicle and 29 per cent admitted to making at least one call in the last year while driving.

The MP3 player was voted the least useful item by 30 per cent of those surveyed. Personal comforts such as portable fans and portable heaters were considered to be unimportant by 22 per cent and 18 per cent of drivers respectively.

Who cares...? I mean who really cares that 275 Fuelcard Company customers consider their hands-free kit their most important in-vehicle accessory? And knowing that, what use is the information? BTW - that's 275 individuals from the 10,000 fleets the Fuelcard Company serves.

Similarly, Halfords survey reveals that 41% of drivers surveyed took a phone call last year - astounding! And, get this, 29% made at least one call - what a revelation!!

Please spare us such banal news items.

Does it? From the press release I could find, it says,
In a poll of 1,106 of the company’s fleet customers, the sat nav and hands-free kit were voted the two most useful cab accessories over the MP3 player, portable fan and portable heater.
No mention of CD players. Could well be the case that a CD player is considered as standard, and not a gadget. I'd need to see the actual survey or raw results to be sure. And who in your average fleet car would need a portable fan or portable heater anyway? Any car I've driven has a fan and a heater anyway. It seems only 20% or so think these unimportant:
The MP3 player was voted the least useful item by 30 percent of respondents, followed by the portable fan and portable heater, which were deemed to be unimportant by 22 percent and 18 percent of drivers respectively.
I really can't believe that. Again, looks like the results of a dodgily-worded survey.

Somewhat speculative.

Now that, along with texting surely is much more worrisome than the other things.

Doesn't say whether this is with hands-free (legal) or without (illegal), so not really of much use, really.

In essence, like all surveys which are commissions with an "agenda" in mind, this should be treated with utmost suspicion.

You can't beat a good 'ol survey to produce a load of tosh that is utterly meaningless, especially when the sample size is so laughably small.

Sadly this is what passes for a PR opportunity in some markets and I hate to think how much the PR and Research companies charged for this.

It's not news and it ought not to be here, we'll learn a lesson and chuck any more of these, that arrive in our inboxes, straight into the trash Laughing
