Hi chaps, if I want to use TT without a route being set (ie I hit 'clear route') so that I can drive along a route I know without listening to directions - but - I still want to be warned about speed cameras - this doesn't seem to be possible or I haven't found the correct button ... any ideas welcome ..

Also I notice some mention on here of turning off tomtom camera warnings and using 'Camera Alert' but I've not been able to find an explanation of the benefits - advice please ... Roger

Can't answer the TomTom question as I don't use TomTom with our data.

CamerAlert is our official, supported solution. It's a dedicated speed camera warning app for iPhone and Android.

See the links on the right of this page. It can run in the background whilst your nav app of choice runs in the foreground or you can run it standalone. It has voice and visual alerts and updates are performed over the air in app, no messing with downloads.

The app is 59p and you can use an existing subscription with it to obtain downloads.

The manual is here: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/cameralert.php

I've often wanted that feature as well, but certainly on TT Navigator it just doesn't work.

It works perfectly well on a TomTom PND. So long as you don't configure the POI to 'Warn only when on route' when setting up the alerts.

Indeed this is possible to do, add the ov2, ogg and renamed icon files to the map folder in the TomTom app on the iPhone, next configure the same POI files for warnings on a PND running v860 mapping, leave the checkbox for "Warn Only if POI on route" unselected. Finally copy the mapsettings.cfg file from the mapfolder on your PND to the TomTom app/ documents folder
See Here for more information on adding POI files to the app.
I should also point out that getting the TomTom app to issue warnings about POI locations isn't a TomTom supported feature, the facility could disapear but since v1,5 this has been possible to do - Mike
