Swedish Drivers Get Paid to Slow Down

The guys over at Wired report that a Swedish speed camera has been introduced which rewards drivers when they keep to the speed limit. The self funding project is an initiative that is paid for by speeders who are caught speeding by the self-same camera.

It's a simple, but clever idea. When passing the camera, if you're speeding, you get a ticket as normal, but if you drive at or under the speed-limit you automatically get entered into a lottery. All funds from the speeders fund said lottery.

According to the Swedish National Society for Road Safety, the average speed of vehicles passing the camera dropped from 32 kilometres per hour before the experiment to 25kph.

Any prizes for guessing how long it takes our bunch of ****** to implement it over here then.

That'll be never then as they'd lose money, and it would appear that the present mob as with their predecessors are only interested in extracting the maximum from the ones who put them there, just so they can spend it foolishly, (MOD and NHS excepted, except where they waste it there too).
