Sorry, that's, "droivers miy soon foind thar setnev vices chainge exent as thu moove bitween diff'rent paaarts o' the cunchree, a'raight?"
Mio Navman is considering addings software that will change the dialect of the voice its satnavs give directions. This would make for a unique motoring experience filled with a huge range of dialects, colloquialisms and accents in a bid to keep you entertained on long journeys. |

that'd seriously annoy me! it's not even realistic cos if you stop in birmingham and ask for directions you never hear a brummy accent, all you get is a cockney 'sorry gavna, i aint from raaaaand eeeya'
seriously though, changing the voice as you drive? pah! no chance!!

You'll often hear a brummie accent in Brum. It's just that hardly anyone from outside the area knows what it sounds like and thinks everyone talks with a Black Country accent (which I suspect TomTom will prove). _________________ Gerry

yes, that's very true. I was talking to a band from Birmingham years ago and I mentioned about his (lack of) accent and he explained the areas and accents to me
but still, what i was getting at was that when you ask for directions you always end up asking someone who's visiting the town!

That's a great idea ( ) - instead of listening to a passer-by you can't understand, your satnav will give you incomprehensible instructions instead!
The last version of this idea I came across was an american linguist who thought it would be SUCH a whizz to have french accents when in France, german ones in Germany, etc "they pronounce the street names properly". Unfortunately I can't, neither can I understand them (I'm not a linguist, and I'm not american). I need to hear what I read to myself when I see a sign
Hmm ... just wondering though if I could get DennisN from K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M on my Navigon? _________________ David
