To be honest it just sounds like a badging exercise - i.e. TomTom are re-selling someone else's service under the TomTom name. Of course there are some people on here think that might not be the best brand name to entice them ;) _________________ J. |

I just cannot wait for the day when some idiot driver gets stranded on a cliff edge "cos their TomTom told them to do it" and has to call out TomTom Assistance to pull them free

I'm not so sure, they were advertising for Roadside Technicians last year:
£27-£35,000 depending on area + pension + excellent benefits package.
Do you have the expertise to deal with any motoring emergency at the roadside? Mondial Assistance is looking for technicians who are problem solvers with the ability to quickly resolve any issues and get customers back on the road with as little inconvenience as possible. |

As with most of them, they will maintain a core fleet and then sub-contract in outlying areas.
The bigger the outfit, the more branded patrols of course but even the AA & RAC will use local garages in remoter locales. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I bet they won't take lat/lon as a valid positional reference, as reported elsewhere for other services. |

Ahem...

Well, I'm going to try and be a perfect smart ass by saying that Darren missed my news report of TomTom Assist, which I posted in August 2010. See here.

That's a little different though, TomTom Assist is a clearly branded service which differs from that offer.
I appreciate it is at the end of the day the same thing but it means TT have decided to offer it as a branded service rather than an offer for their customers? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Perhaps that offer was a pilot scheme to see how things went. Now they have moved in-house with the scheme, and re-branded it to look like its their own. Obviously with their partners agreeing to that. |

They'll struggle to compete with the AA, just purchased basic recovery for my wife, cost £29 but using Quidco received £21 cashback making it £8 for 12 months.... bargain |
