I looked in the FAQ, but it isn't there. Given the map size issue, and the fact that my subscription is up soon, I figure I should install an SD card in my 740 and get the whole of Europe downloaded to it.

Could someone tell me what I should do to make it work as easily as possible? Do I just buy any 4Gb micro-SD card, stick it in the slot, copy the files from one to the other, and then select the big map? Or is there something more to it?

Thanks in advance, Matthew

For a 740, it should be just case of putting in a micro SD card.
Home should now ask where you want to install the map to - internal memory or card.

In the "W&CE v850 map released' thread, there is a report that TTCS say there is an issue with loading the whole map on an sd card which they are working to resolve.

I have a GO 930. I moved the US maps onto an SD card and then Home let me install all of W&CE to the internal memory Smile

I have here a Duracell "microSDHC" 4GB card in its packaging. On it, it has a warning, that "microSDHC" is not "microSD". Did I buy the wrong thing? Will this work, or should I send it back?

Google and Wikipedia tell me that MicroSD goes up to 2GB, and MicroSDHC goes from 4Gb, so it must be okay.

I am using a 4GB SD (Class 6 SDHC) card in my Go 720 and that works without any problem whatsoever.

I use 8GB MicroSDHC in my 940 and also one via an adaptor in my 530.

One more question then, following on from discovering that to install the bigger map I have to put it in an SD card reader: Am I going to be able to update as usual on the TT740 device, or should I pull the SD card each time? What is the normal mode of operation when you have "two installs"?

Thanks!

When you connect device to PC, home asks you which device you want to connect, SD or internal memory. I think this behaves properly for everything EXCEPT map updates. (I don't really use Home for anything else.) When it comes to maps, even though you have chosen the SD, it still updates the internal memory, or at least, when I updated this week, it told me it was going to update internal memory, and I aborted the install!

Maoshare updates are only downloaded for the active map on the unit. I wonder if Map updates are similar.

I use operate my go to switch maps (I have W&CE and US 8.50s on there) and then update my go. I get the Mapshares only for the active map.

So, try try a map update, with the sd card in the slot of your tomtom and with that map active.

My 930 is also in the same situation. 68Mb on the internal memory and a 8Gb SD card with pretty much nothing on it.

Did you just move the NorthAmerica folder straight to the SD card, or is there a correct way to do this in TTHome?

Best not to use Home to move the map. Just use windows explorer. I did the same as MARViN2993 and moved the USA map to my 4GB SD card, then installed W&CE.

I almost have enough Internal memory to put it back (USA map). Anyone know what Folders and Files you can safely delete with out loosing any functionality?

This is a 930.
