I see that the Navigon 70 series have been announced and will be available next week. I am tempted but need to know if Live services are available or will be available on the Navigon 70 Premium series. Considering whether to place order for the 8450 Live instead. Any comments are welcome

According to Navigon's product and press info on the new range, there will be a '70 Premium Live' sometime over the summer - the'40 Premium Live' already appears to be on sale (or for reserve?) in their website shop. It looks like they still use the separate Live plug-in module that the 8450 uses now.

Excellent news thank you. I think I might wait and stay with my 8310 but at least put the Michelin Green Guides onto it. If you do hear more, please let me know

The 70 range has the LIVE software integrated into the build, so once you order the live module you simply plug it in and it automatically detects the module and then presents you with the correct LIVE options.
You may get a better deal waiting for the bundled shipments, it's also worth checking out other sites which maybe able to ship sooner (PixMania is one example they shipped my 8450 while Navigon were still out of stock)

jonandmarkuk - I'm not sure of the signicance of your post on the 70 Premium Live

Is this instead of being in the Live module as in 6350/8450?

What is the significance of this change - does it make a difference to how the 70 is set up in the car, or is it a preparation for a future release? If not, do you know what the purpose is?

No I think I mentioned in another thread. They will still have an external module. The difference is 1 software build. At the moment 6450/8450 have different software to the 6410/8410 devices.

Has anyone used the new Active Lane Guidance from Navigon?

Seems like a good idea - and to me lane guidance is far better a feature than junction view, but from the Navigon website simulation and the one video I have managed to find on-line - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZiDEbyncIA - it looks quite erratic and very difficult to follow

Anyone?

I may have used it for real Smile the lane guidance is never going to be as smooth moving as the map and doesn't really need to be as it's only on screen for a short while. The problem is the map data needs to contain the correct lane information and complex junctions are always going to be hard to figure. It's certainly nicer than the static view Smile (which can be selected) So if you don't like the active one go back to the standard version.

Thanks for the feedback - my initial view was it was just what I wanted but since seeing this new video, it seemed to make it less clear, more confusing than the static

My local Halfords store has the new Navigon 40 model in stock (not the model I want, but it has Active Lane Guidance) so will call by this week and hopefully try it out!

Its probably going to be this feature which makes me choose between a new 70 Premium Live or the new Garmin 3790T...

Just started reading today's press release on the German site about the 70 Premium Live ... Cool Cool
And have just reached this
Quote:
each customer the NAVIGON Live Services, two new services included. The live module for the reception is on the model first introduced. "With innovative hardware and extensive features, the NAVIGON 70 Live Premium is ideal for business travelers and discerning motorists," says Jörn Watzke, Vice President of Product Line Management at NAVIGON.

If this means what I think it might do, I'm onto ebay and Navigon in the very near future Razz Razz . But then it may be wishful thinking, YET again .... Rolling Eyes

Looks like I've a little saving time left - Navigon estimate the release of the Premium Live to be in September.

I see there are a fair few complaints about route times calculations and Live Traffic on the iPhone, comparing it very unfavourably with Garmin & TT. Does anyone (eg jonandmarkuk) know if this problem is likely to be JUST in the iphone implementation, or does it affect any of the 'native' satnav models as well? And is it a problem introduced in the latest iPhone software release, and therefore possibly affecting the new 40/70 Live models?

(guess I'll probably have to wait and see, though Cool )

Live gets it's data from Intrix the exact same source that Garmin and TomTom use I believe (or so Intrix say) so not sure how it could be any worse.
I think people are getting confused with the 'my routes' a little. Navigon do estimate the times a little wrong to begin with and seems most is based on driving top speed of each road. However as you use the device the my routes feature will gradually start to show far more accurate trip times.
Let's face it.. some people just love to complain about anything and iPhone people tend to complain most?

True enough, jonandmarkuk - and it seems that those on Navigon's FaceBook pages seem to moan the MOST most. Laughing
