My mate phoned to say he recently updated his maps to TA 2009.12 and since found a number of entry/exit ramps to motorways are showing as tunnels i.e. route changes colour and changes to night mode.

Has anyone else experienced this since updating to 2009.12 maps?

Does it do this on simulation? And if so, any specific MW ramp? or all ramps?

Hi LP.
I've tried simulating a few tonight, and have driven several last weekend, (M25/M11) but no problems. 2009/12 maps

Thanks M8TJT, I gave him a call and he says he noticed it happens in simulation mode.

e.g. On a route Rainham (Kent) to Leeds Castle it happens on the M2 and M20 ramps and also the ramp entering Blue Bell Hill (A229).

If you have no problems with 2009.12 then the maps are OK, maybe there was a hiccup when he was updating. He'll have to try again.

I thought that this was probably due to a corrupt map but having downloaded the 2009.12 maps again the new "tunnels" still exist. It isn't only some motorway ramps which are marked as tunnels but also random straight stretches of road as well. It's not just confined to the UK map either, I've found new "tunnels" on the map of France as well.

Does anyone know how to disable the tunnel night mode feature ?

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't work. Sad

I also tried the following but no luck:

[debug]
tunnel_mode=0

I think I'll stick with 2009.09 maps for now.

Regards

Weird, my mate downloaded again and I've managed to have a 'play'. The 'phantom' tunnel mode only seems to appear now when crossing the channel tunnel rail link tunnels, as in the example I gave earlier.

In night mode the screen darkens slightly more as it would when entering a tunnel.

With iGO8 it goes unto tunnel mode between the UK and French teminals so I guess that was written in the software. Maybe they've added, or removed, something in 2009.12 maps which treats the whole of the rail link as a tunnel and crossing the coordinates switches on night mode. Unfortunately I wasn't able to 'play' as long as I would have liked.

i have also noticed places where 'new' tunnels have appeared & existing tunnels have disappeared & i am using iGO8 with the latest maps. gonna try Primo with the same maps & see if that works the same way, otherwise i will revert to an older set of maps.

It's exactly the same in iGO8, Amigo and Primo with the 2009.12 and 2010.03 TeleAtlas maps. So it looks like it's definitely a map problem and not a software bug.

Can you give the location of any of the 'new' tunnels ?

I've just found that the Dartford tunnel now has a non-tunnel section in the middle. Rolling Eyes

Set a route from 51.334088 0.510132 to Maidstone and simulate.

The start of the route passes over the Channel Tunnel rail link where it passes under the North Downs.

There may be other areas but I can't find any to date.

Edit to add. Everything fine with 2009.09 maps.

Your mention of the Channel Tunnel rail link set me thinking. I looked at all of the phantom tunnels that I was aware of and found that every one of them was where the road crossed over a railway tunnel.

Even the Dartford tunnel gap I mentioned previously is actually a further phantom tunnel on the north side of the Thames where the road crosses the CTRL rail line which made it seem as though there was a gap in the real tunnel.

And it's not restricted to the UK, one I found in Calais is again where the road crosses a railway tunnel.

Well done TeleAtlas ! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I wonder if they know (care). It's difficult enough to submit changes for them to ignore, so how do you submit a change to cover this???? It's obviously a programming error in the data compiler, perhaps in the 'tunnel' module, that is doing it.

I just checked the roads going over the Strood/Higham tunnels and notice the railway line is missing on the map between just west of Strood and West of Higham, no phantom tunnels.

Also checked the Fort Pitt Tunnel between Rochester and Chatham, and Gillingham Tunnel between Chatham and Gillingham, again the railway line isn't shown on the map between Rochester and Gillingham, no phantom tunnel.

All very strange. Confused

Are you saying that if the 'railway line in tunnel' doesn't show on the map then there is no phantom road tunnel whereas if the 'railway line in tunnel' shows on the map then there is a phantom road tunnel ?
