Hi All

Over 20 weeks ago i submitted a camera to be removed 4miles from M25/M20 . (Gatso 72477)
I got the red square box with the cross in it on the map the next day but it has still not been verified.
Has this camera been missed for verification?

Regard

When one of the verification team are passing that area they will take a look, 20 weeks is a long time for other submissions not to have counted to removing this camera but users might be seeing the warning for the camera on the opposite side of the road - Rest assured one of us will take a look at this location when in the area - Mike

Interesting StreetView on Google maps - Viewed from one position, it shows only one camera - in central reservation. Viewed from another position shows it with the head removed and with temporary weather proofing cover on the arm. I note that Gatso 73020 looks to be the reversible element of it and would explain why we have two cameras in the database? We have NOT had a submission to remove the northbound camera site. Is that still there? As Mike says, this looks like a busy road, so it's a puzzle why nobody else has submitted a removal request.

As a footnote, I think I personally will not be looking at this one, as it's pretty much off my beaten track.

I've got TWO possible scenarios for this.
I'll do them in two separate posts....

1. Maybe this is a combination of a misunderstanding of how the database is set up, and a slight error of positioning on the database.

The first thing you need to know is that REVERSIBLE cameras (usually sited on the central reservation) often used to fail to warn in one or other direction on a TomTom if there was only one position marked on the map, in the middle between the two carriageways.

So it was decided to place an icon on BOTH carriageways for these cameras.
Unfortunately, to the user, it now looks as though there are TWO actual cameras, and there is no obvious way to show that one is a sort of "dummy".
I always thought the "dummy" should be given the same ID number as the real camera but with some sort of suffix, like Gatso:12345 and Gatso:12345A, but this wasn't apparently possible/easy to achieve.

So maybe in this location there was only ever one camera, and it was thought to be reversible, BUT that the two icons for it should have been positioned much closer together than they are at the moment.

Does that sound likely? Any thoughts MaFt?
However, there are also no white lines showing on the road to the south west of the actual Gatso camera, so it looks like it isn't a reversible camera anyway.

Next, as Dennis says, there's the question of whether the one camera is still there or not.

NO_MAD - what do you think is the exact situation? Is there one camera still there or none?

Second scenario.....

Although we DON'T use Google Streetview for final verification of possible camera sites, it's still a useful tool.

If you look on Streetview at the position of the disputed camera location going southbound, you can see some sensor strips buried in the road and a control box beside them.

See HERE

That looks to me very much like an "Autovision" mobile speed trap system, like this:

For more details see the UK Speedtraps site.

So should the southbound camera position have been a MOBILE?

Hi All

Only one camera in area (Gatso 73020) incentral reservation.
This is ONLY for nothbound.
No road markings southbound. If you look at google map this is correct.

Looks like a database error, then. Let's see what MaFt has for comments on both cameras - 73020 has something about reversible and about the mobile (21788) further south.

PS. Streetview also shows buried strips in the opposite carriageway, but I think that's a red herring for this particular Gatso.

Hi All

The camera to be removed is over 30mts to the north of Honeyden road
(the side road on the right as you look north).

The sensor strips are over 20mts to the south of Honeyden road.

Not necessarily....

They often paint lines to make us THINK a camera is watching (like on all those M25 gantries), and also sometimes paint them on both sides of the road but on one side of the camera, if you see what I mean.

Afraid that for me it's a 60 mile round trip to get there to verify it and I've no spare petrol money currently.

I was in the area a fortnight ago, but unfortunately leaving home at 5am with 8 deliveries and a 400 mile round trip, I wasn't able to check anything at all. Sorry.

Is this cam on the central reservation with 'ladder lines' to the north of it on the northbound carriageway and to the south of it on the southbound carriageway? Indicating that it is reversible?

Has this camera been completely removed including the mounting post? Has there ever been two cams at about this location, or has cam 72477 never actually been there and it is a 'miss' for 73020?
