Just spotted this was released mid-Feb.

Don't get too excited though I'm afraid, as the reviews ain't great.

I've tried it a couple of times, and for a free app it isn't that bad IMO.

It showed two traffic incidents when I was stuck in traffic, so at least you have some idea of what's going on.

The RAC one is much better.

The HA one looks OK. Could do with a map though. Has anyone checked either this or the RAC one for data accuracy? This would be more important than being "nice looking".

The HA has shown valid incidents when I've checked it.

I'll give the RAC one a go, although Navigon is doing well.

The Directgov app is also worth having. A bit slow to load, but it does have a lot of detail including minior road works that neither the RAC or HA Traffic show.

Which begs the question, why aren't Directgov and the Highways Agency working together on this?

i'd presume that it depends on who 'owns' the road. my understanding is that smaller / local roads are controlled by the local authority (i.e. are covered by Direct.gov) whereas the bigger roads - motorways etc) by the Highways Agency (probably because they cross multiple local authorities). it would be FAR too sensible for different government agencies to work together...

Highways Agency is Motorways and Trunk Roads (that's just a few A roads, not all of them), the Local Authority the rest.
