pocketgpsworld.comFurther to our announcement on Tuesday that Pocket GPS launched its very own speed camera warning system for the iPhone, we're delighted to report that Apple are listing us as the 52nd "Top Paid App" in their AppStore and the No.1 application in their highly competitive navigation section.

So far we've also been given a universal 5 stars by users and have received several rave reviews.

This is a significant opportunity for us to grow our community and make the database even better. Please can we encourage you to review and rate the application on iTunes. CamerAlert is available at only £0.59p in the AppStore right now. We'll keep you posted as to our progress.

Read the reviews and buy at the Apple AppStore now.

Personally i don't think it is on for you to suggest that we "email, phone and generally pester everyone we know". Although I am a proud paid up subscriber of the PGPSW speed database. I do not agree with your suggested methods of marketing. If you were offering commission of some other perk then one may consider it. but for PGPSW to expect its members to be sales people and spammers for their products is pretty cheap in my opinion. ( OK now i wait for the deluge of members running to your defence) I have my Hard Hat on and am waiting

I think you may have taken this news post a little too literally.

Or maybe with all due respect you are naive in the ways of marketing

Don't ask us to spam our friends please. If your app is doing so well, then quite obviously you can use the money you're getting from it to pay for some proper marketing and promotion. I hope this "article" (ad) will be promptly deleted so as to not affect the reputation of this site. It reads as though a greedy 16 year old has posted it and doesn't really fit in with the nature of the site.

It certainly isn't a call to spam anyone! Bringing it to the attention of a friend or colleague is not certainly not spamming.

The post has been taken out of the spirit and context that it has been written.

It's purely a light, jokey way of writing.

Most folks don't know anyone with an iPhone and those those that do would ordinarily only know one or two. Passing on recommendations to one or two friends on the web is common practice and cannot be construed as spamming.

And obviously those that do send a recommendation would only do so to those who they would feel comfortable sending it to - again not spamming.

It hasn't come across like that though. When I read the news item I had exactly the same thoughts as above and while your intentions may have been well founded, the way it comes across just makes me cringe.

Available only in the UK AppStore.

As I use BMW maps modified with Pimp-My-Nav mainly in Poland it could be a nice way to have an alert sound when the speed camera is displayed on the OEM nav system.

Any plans to make it available in other countries?

Yes, we've launched in UK/US initially but hope to roll out to other countries in due course.

It can reside on the same iPhone as the TomTom app but you cannot run more than a single application at any one time with a normal iPhone, even a JailBroke iPhone probably won't run both apps together as the navigation app is very memory dependent leaving little (if any) free for anything else - Mike
