Clap Clap Clap I don't suppose there's any chance you can come and make AutoRoute 2007 run on my Windows 7 is there?

Have you tried 'in compatibility mode'? Shocked

I've tried reinstalling zillions of times, I've tried compatibility mode for XP, XP SP1, XP SP2, Vista, Vista SP1, Vista SP2, I've tried User Control. I presume the next step is suicide or install it on my MacBook under Parallels! Evil or Very Mad

It's been a long while since I used AutoRoute but wondered A. If there had been any later updates to it and B. Dennis, I guess you use it for your courier biz? What does it do that cannot be offered by Google Maps or other on-line resources?

Unfortunately AutoRoute 2007 is the last of the breed - MS have brought out a replacement (MapPoint) which costs a bomb (£300) and does all those wonderful things I don't need, like Just in Time planning, profit margins, the price of BP shares in Tokyo, how to build your own wind farm and so on.

I sometimes use it to check the mileage and route for a delivery - one of the national companies I do sub-contract work for tells me what the mileage is and what mileage they'll pay for - they are getting it badly wrong in some cases, so I'm starting to refuse any jobs where that happens. e.g. I just refused BS32 4JA to DA15 7BH because they will only pay for 129 miles. Or how about BS35 1RQ to CH1 6ES paid 145 miles. Last time I had a go at them for these errors, I sent them printouts of Autoroute, Google Maps, TT Route Planner, AA Route Planner and TT screen dumps, so I do know a few alternatives for that checking.

But the real thing I use it for is Verifying cameras for pgpsw! Each week I load the checkable cameras into it, then plan today's delivery route (simple A-B) and look what cameras are on or near my route. I'll then print a closeup of a camera area and write the ID of each camera to check alongside its icon on the printout. Put the map printout(s) on my clipboard and tick or cross as I sail past, maybe make a mental note of some brilliant comment about the site.

I'm comfortable with it, I know how to work it, I own a copy legally and it does the business. I've used it for probably 10 years, buying the most recent version each year until they stopped. It's a Microsoft program only 2-3 years old, Windows 7 is a Microsoft program. I bought Win 7 upgrade last week because I believed the hype that it works (like I use TT satnavs!). I have a certain expectation that the damned things will work together. Evil or Very Mad

Ah yes, MapPoint was always available but was aimed at a pro user who required much more detailed data handling functions.

Understood, in which case it should run perfectly in Parallels, just install an OS that is supported by Autoroute, would that be Win2k?

AutoRoute worked in everything, including my previous OS, Vista Home Premium day before yesterday!! I have either XP or XP Pro in Parallels. Trouble is desk or other space - working on PC, get a call, rush off to MacBook, print on wireless printer, shove a broom up my whatsit, collect up five satnavs and fire them up on the windscreen! Everybody say "Aaaaaah".

You need to bin your PC masochism and get an iMac for your desk, then you could have parallels running all the time for those PC apps that you have to have access to.

You know that. I know that. But back in March when I bought my latest PC I simply didn't have the bottle. I didn't have the confidence that I could transfer all my business spreadsheets to a Mac. And don't tell me about iWork etc - I became an expert with Lotus 123 over 20 years ago!

Dennis, it appears that all is not lost! Have a look at this. No hint of cost or how long the eval version will last, but you can test the free trial on W7, at least until you find out how to run AR2007 under W7. I wonder if AR2010 will run under XP?

This is the OT forum so it's technically not a crime.

BUT given the thread was in regard to the Remembrance Day then I concede it is a little impolite to pollute it with discussion of this here.

So we'll take it elsewhere if it is to continue Embarassed

Everything above this is from the split topic so "Off Topic" remarks are now out of date.

Gerry, can you do a bit of a tidy up? Kill my 1st post and Darren's reply? And this post?
