I've just completed a long journey in heavy rain and found my Talex Lite lost satellite contact quite frequently and, as a consequence, completely missed a number of fixed cameras.

As a comparison, my Garmin 250W remained 'locked on' at all times and, loaded with the PGPSW database, performed flawlessly.

Never had a problem with mine. Even under a veil of trees it seems to work OK.

It is only a Sirf2 I think whilst the more modern stuff is Sirf3

If is is an earlier generation GPS receiver then that is a typical symptom of degraded GPS performance.

The SiRFStarII receivers were much less sensitive and so heavy rain could be enough to tip the balance between lock and no lock.
