Hi. I use my A10 for cycling in Trail up mode. If I miss a turn from my planned route, I stop to check the map, but, while im stationary, the map spins around and I cant tell which direction I should be facing in order to pick up the planned route again.

While riding/moving, its simple, the trail is shown as up. If I park up the car, then use the A10 to find the start point of my planned route. The screen doesnt stay still long enough for me to make out which direction I should be facing to reach the start point. I usually end up walking in the wrong direction before I realise it!

Can anyone advise the easiest way with the A10 to work out in which direction one should be facing in order to pick up a planned route?

Is it normal for the map to spin round & round while stationary and in trail up mode? (I have read the manual which states that the GPS will not work when stationary).

Yes this is a bit of a problem but one that is not restricted to the A10,I have a Garmin that does the same and I don't know of a definitive answer for it.

I have head it suggested that a calibration of the compass before use can limit the movement. When using the A10 on a bike you are supposed to rotate the whole bike with the unit attached, not just the GPS.I have not bothered with this on the tandem,it's more trouble than it is worth.

I think it must be a feature of the GPS system itself but you would have thought some kind of "damping" system could have been thought of to calm it down a bit.

Would the following work well enough? Just before stopping note which direction is North (plenty of clues on the Sat Map such as grid lines). Once stopped switch to "North up" view. Then you can realign your satmap physically so the top of the Satmap points North. Now the direction you want to take is wherever the path points on the SatMap. This way you are not relying on the static compass built in to the SatMap. Alternatively can one purchase a handlebar mounting magnetic compass to give an instant read on North?

That sounds like a simple solution to the problem to me.

Yeah! Satmap, Light, compass, speed computer, fluffy dice - my handle bars are looking more and more like the control panel of my car Wink

Thanks for your advice, at least I know it isnt me going mad, or my A10
