Thank you for your reply. If I select all the differing types I get the same reply and with variations of headers I can get the postcode of first line to be listed as 'Postcode' is not a valid floating point value

Do you have the data, in the CSV, as Long, Lat, Postcode?

It has to be in that order. The columns are not customisable, as they are in AutoRoute.

Try deleting the header line completely. It won't have anything to complain about then. Also you MAY need to delete any trailing comment lines. You should still get a properly formatted file and if the order is right the header record doesn't really matter too much.

When I use POIEdit, I sometimes get a few of these messages - I have even (I think) on one occasion repeated the open with the same input format after the error and it worked.

o/k thank you all for your input I have now solved the problem I think! I would seem that the postcode file needed to be in the last column so by putting the semicolon infront of first column eg ;long lat postcode then my start row at column 1, and finaly keep value at loading file. Then resaved the file (all this within CSVed) it would then load into PoiEdit after jipping at first line.
ta! now a happy bunnie Razz

Why would I want this in OV2 format? My TT comes with full post code searching.

So does my TT but I am also experimenting with (free) satnav software on my phone called "We-travel". We-travel has no postcode search facility that I am aware of but it is supposed to be able to read an OV2 file.

hello, regarding the uk-post-codes-2009 postcodes file, is the data which the values of some of the fields map to available anywhere? for example the PZ_County column contains two digit values. those two digit values i guess map to a county. is that mapping table between two digit values and county names available anywhere? same for some of the other columns?

thanks.

Yep, downloaded it as well.

Have no idea what I'm going to do with it though.
Probably delete it in three months time like the rest of the stuff that seems like a good idea at the time, but just clutters up the place.

If you bear with me, I will have to check in my archive/back up files. I don't have it on my PC, so must have deleted them as I never used them.
I will have a look when I get back home tonight, it may take a time as my system backs up twice a week.

Hi Darren, or any Staff member.

As an afterthought, did we ever find out if it was RMs data, and is it OK to pass it on - if I have it that is.
If I have anything, it is going to be the file from the original post and not anything that has been converted to another file format etc.

Cheers Bob

I have spent what seems like ages looking for this file, and sorry I can't find it.
I have a sub folder in a TomTom back up file called 'Post Codes'. However it is empty?? Now I don't know if I was going to keep a back up file of the regular post codes in there, and didn't bother because they are part and parcel of my normal TT back up.
Or whether that was where I was going to keep this other download and never got around to it because I deleted it from the Mac 1st.

At the moment I'll have to say I don't have it, I do have a couple of smaller 250Gb external drives I usually shift a lot of bits and pieces to, so i will have a rummage in them as well just in case.

Cheers, Bob

The wikileaks link seems to be down now, but if anyone needs a postcode database (full postcode + lat/long), drop me an email at andy_taylor(AT)ftml.net
