Navigon 1.2 Update hits the App Store..

Hey guys. Not been here in a loooong while.

I was a PocketPC Tomtom guy, back in the day.. Then got into iGo and Navigon..

Now i'm on my iPhone.. Bought Navigon when it was cheap.

Just a note to say that as well as iPhone firmware 3.1 and a new version of iTunes, the latest version of Navigon is up there...

TTS works. Occasionally. Although I miss the old voice.

iPod control works with the current playlist, which is nice.

And that's all I've noticed so far. But I've not taken it out for a drive yet..

itunes says auto day/night is now added as well as emailing your location

Yup. Can confirm both those things are burried away in the menus.

Still not taken it for a proper long drive yet, bu am I right in assuming it's the only program so far to allow control/muting of the iPod which it's running?

Hi Guys

Haven't bought this yet as it still doesn't do full postcode so am sticking with copilot for a while (well till 29 Sept probably)

Anyway are the speed cams on the Navigon directional or are they like the Copilot and warn you regardless of which way you're tavelling?

Having used 1.2 for a few days the cameras seem directional and on route, but remember as some can be either way you get warned in either direction. pretty normal I guess.

Having used the updated copilot and now navigon 1.2, I prefer navigon as I get warned a sensible distance from the junction, unlike copilot which does 2m. 1m.& 500 yards plus as you go past the junction. still not too impressed with its gps fix.

Navigon seems better, or at least gives better directions. routing is reasonable, but the eta times are way out for london driving. maybe this will change when live is available at end october. I mean like 9 miles in 20mins!!!! Laughing Out Loud

yeah. at 6am in the morning! I did do 13miles in 35 mins leaving home at 5.45am across london from croydon to hammersmith. return jouney took an also respectable 1 hour! (for london). I recon on 10mph average during the day, so I hope traffic live will fix this.

in may ways I prefer this to my onboard skoda navigation, but the on board will always beat any stand alone as it displays in my central cluster right in front on my eyes, whereas any other device will never be in line of sight.

Now, if I could have my navigon on iphone placed where my central cluster is.........bliss!

Sorry, I have to disagree wih MaFt and say the cameras are not directional and will warn you whichever direction you are going.

Here in Blackpool we have quite a few 'one sided' cameras and navigon always warns me when approaching them. I've tried this by just driving around and also by having a route set and it always warns me.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to make them warn directionally?

Or possibly I'm right and they are not directional.

Maybe you could try it out on yours and report back.

Some cameras are directional but not all. it would help if they used a decent database in the first place! I suspect your cameras have not been reported properly. I too get warmed occasionally of one sided cameras, but at least they are on the route, not somewhere in the vicinity

Navigon only warns you of cameras on your route - unlike copilot.

I haven't yet had any problems with full postcode not being available. I visit clients all over London & south east and I have always found my address, or very close to it.

Yes the road numbers are often incomplete on the sat nav, which ever system you use, Tom Tom, Skoda, Copilot or Navigon. I haven't yet come across any missing roads, but I expect to. It is useful therefore to have google maps built into the iphone.(& an old fashioned A-Z in the boot!)

Interestingly the Specs cameras on the M55/ M6 interchange are part of the current camera database from Navigon, these cameras were pysically removed a month or two ago. Strange thing is I got warnings on both the Noth/ West and South/ East carriageways, these cameras only ever existed on the South/ East section of road - Mike

It does take slightly longer until the app is loaded and ready for use, but to be honest its not too much of an issue, once it gets going its fine while navigating - Mike
