So I've lost the functionality as I posted in the map thread.

If I put the cable in, nothing happens. Go to the traffic screen to try and enable it results in a "Bluetooth disabled" message.

I have now reset the 730T to an earlier backup where traffic worked fine, and it still doesn't, so I guess its not the latest map that caused it, hence the new post.

Any clues, before I take it back to the shop. It's two weeks away from running out of guarantee, but I have spoken to them, and if the TomTom support can't help them, then it has to be sent off. Two week turnaround apparently. So guys, does it go back, or have I missed a magic fix.

Ta.

What kind of RDS antenna do you have, the mini-USB one or the two pole plug type?

Its the 2 pole plug type, separate to the power lead.

The only way to get to any RDS-TMC options is by tapping the traffic side bar on the right side of the screen, if thats not being displayed the device isn't seeing the receiver.

Try resetting the device with a paperclip/ pin if that fails to work try Change Preferences/ Restore factory defaults, if that fails and you are sure the plug is fully inserted (they can be a little ight at times) then either the nav unit is faulty or the receiver.
Do you know anyone else locally that has a TomTom you can try your receiver in? if it works in a different nav unit then the fault is with your TomTom, if it doesn't work in a different device the receiver has probably packed up.

By the way the connector actually has six poles, four on the center and two more on the inside of the outer barrel - Mike

Thanks Mike.

Already tried the pin reset - no change.

Just tried the reset factory defaults, and after ending up in a foreign language, also no change.

There is no bar on the right hand side. Also there used to be a message in a black background when the aerial was plugged in, that isn't there either. The shop, who I spoke to earlier said they may have one out of a box somewhere to test with.

Sounds like either the aerial jobby is knacked, or the unit itself. Strange as the last time I used it, it worked fine. I unplugged it, didn't take it on holiday to Spain a month back, then the next time I come to use it, it no works. Crying or Very sad

Oh well, back to the shop tomorrow for me then.

Gary

EDIT: Just in case its relevant, it says 4V00.013 on the label on the cable

The .013 receiver was the last type TT supplied of that design and in my opinion its the best one of the lot! Its possible the socket in the base of the nav unit is damaged which will require the device to be returned but you need to prove this by using other devices/ hardware to work out which unit is faulty.

If its the receiver try PC World/ Currys as they have been selling off the .013 receivers for under £2 recently - Mike

Hi Bloater

Had the same problem on my 730T and found solution on TomTomForums.com this morning. The forum solution says that this solution is on this forum somewhere.

Apparently happens after a map update.

Attach the unit to your computer and look in the Uk or Western Europe folder on the unit and see if the following files are present.

tmccodes.dat and traffic.dat.

If they are missing or have a file size of 0kb then that is the problem.

Here is the solution from the forum

Have you updated your map and then found it doesn't work with RDS-TMC?

If you have updated the map can you view the map folders contents and check the following files are present and have a size larger than 0KB

tmccodes.dat
traffic.dat

If they are missing or showing as 0KB they are not correctly installed, you need to locate the map download on the computer, unzip it and copy these two files to the device, this fault is being reported by quite a few users over on PGPSW and the above seems to be fixing the issue - Mike

I found that Ihad copies of the fioles on my computer and wrote over the files on the 730T and the unit immediately picked up the signal again.

All the best Doug

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that solution as my first option but still no good, the files were 1kb and 6Meg anyway.

Hopefully the shop will have some bits they can test, even another 730 on display to test my lead. It's still under guarantee so don't want to spend any money on a new one.

Cheers

Done the trick with the files, no different. Not deleted the gnsdata file, but I guess the reset to factory defaults would do that. I will nip home before going to shop and try it.

Is there any other way to get those files?

I downloaded the map OK onto my desktop and installed it, but am away all week with just my laptop. Noticed that I wasn't getting connected to RDS and after reading this thread found the files had 0 bytes.

There's two types of receiver. The USB one is around the £40 odd mark. The older round connector one is the one being sold cheap by Currys etc if you can still find them.
