In car, it works great. Tracks location well, only a slight lag. On foot it's hopeless. It seems the app is foxed by the phone not moving fast enough, and location/direction updates only sporadically.

Makes the walking routes useless, which is disappointing (primary reason I bought the app). Rolling Eyes

Anyone got the same problem?

TT isn't just a "vehicle navigation app". It specifically offers walking routes. I bought it because I wanted to have access to a TBT app for emergency use in unfamiliar cities and it had to be one that plans walking routes, had full W/Europe coverage and has a UI with which I am familiar (I have a 740 LIVE in my car). Does that answer your question?

TomTom on Windows Mob was equally rubbish for walking. I'm guessing the iPhone version doesn't take advantage of the compass either - assuming you're using a 3GS - for orienting the maps.

You'd think it would perform better on foot - no car to block the signal, plenty of time to update/recalculate, etc. It doesn't make any sense. Confused

My guess if that "civilian GPS" is not very accurate, so it requires a fairly reasonable speed to be able to determine movement - which must be relatively straightforward from a car.

I remember trying to use the Win Mob version to navigate in a pedestrianised town centre, and it was very confused. Frequently rotating the map, despite me walking in the same direction.

Google Maps with the compass is a fair bit better, but it depends what your mapping needs are. Motion X is another alternative, which can cache Google Maps, and also uses the compass.
