Has anybody found a robust and protective iphone mount for a normal mountain bike?

I'd love to use the iphone to navigate around my local road system, but am afraid of it dropping and breaking.

Thanks!

I'd start with an Otterbox case, it is pretty securely held in the holster and then look at some method of securing the holster to the bars, even plastic ties would probably do.

See my review of the case here.

At least if you use that it should survive if it came off! An elastic band around case and holster would give extra security too and the case protects the phone from the elements to a degree too.

The Otter Box 1900 combined with a RAM mount to secure it to the handle bars is probably a good choice, Memory Map retail the Otter Box kit in the UK but you might be better sourcing the whole lot from the USA to get the RAM mount - Mike

Guys, www.buybits.com (in UK) does the RAM motorcycle and bike mounts of endless variety, including a RAM Otterbox quick release mount for various Otterboxes. Don't know which boxes are iPhone compatible.

Perhaps better, expansys do all the Otterboxes (over 100 Otterbox bits) - and the Otterbox own 1900 specific handlebar mount for bikes with up to 1 inch handlebars. This looks maybe better as screw tightening rather than cable tie style. They also have a load of RAM stuff but not it appears a RAM bike mount - but search youself.

Got to be cheaper than shipping from US?

I am an admitted gadget freak . . . .

I have (had?) this device. I was out this morning, cycling on roads and without warning it sheared between the bike mount and the arm. I have had this since early September and it has not been over used, and never off road where you expect it to perhaps be more likely to fail.

Fortunately my iPhone seems to have survived.

I will be looking for an alternative product!

Sorry, my device was the Rigid Adjustable Bicycle Mount.

Anyone know of any good mounts that are water - or at least shower proof?

As stated earlier in this thread, the Otterbox & RAM-Mount combo, rugged, waterproof and excellent kit.

I'm not sure there are any RAM-Mounts designed to work with the defender. I was thinking more of the Otterbox1900 with a RAM-Mount for bike mounting purposes.

Ah understood (I need a dunce cap to put on and go and sit in the corner)

Here is picture of the handlebar arangement on my mountain bike, to the left is the excellent SatMap active10 followed by the trip computer and main front light and followed by the iPhone in an Otter Box 1900 case clamped to the handlebars, might give you a few ideas but in use it works very well.

The 1900 case offers far more protection and is 100% waterproof, the iPhones screen can still be used through the waterproof membrane with the perspex visor up, sorry for the quality of the picture due to the flash on the camera.

To be honest in use I tend to have just the active10 on the bike, the iPhone goes into an OverBoard waterproof case with waterproof earplugs so I can have music on, the OverBoard case is strapped to my arm but it doesn't offer anything like the same protection from knocks and bangs like the Otter 1900 can handle - Mike
