Geez TomTom, you sure know how to disappoint!

No custom POIs, no POI import. No POI alerts. No traffic... at all.

The mount needs Bluetooth (another thing to reset when jumping out of the car to preserve battery).

You're just about the most expensive... just about the last... just about the most out of date (according to map data reports)... just about the blandest!
It's just not good enough!

Reading the manual is like stepping back in time... 5 years ago maybe! What a dreary company you've become!

CoPilot stole me from TomTom, and TomTom won't be getting me back unless there are some significant updates.

Poor show TomTom. why aren't I surprised?!

On the upside, MacRumours are quoting an interview where TT confirm the cradle will be compatible with other third party GPS apps and the iPod Touch.

Having downloaded the app I'm quite pleased with it's simplicity and smooth mapping. what I'm really hoping for is the ability to use custom poi's (already using a jailbroken phone) and the ability to warn me about approaching POI's. Hopefully this first attempt for the iPhone will now be improved upon by TomTom. If not then they are not going to have a huge success with this.

COME ON TOMTOM... GIVE US OUR FAVOURITE TWEEKS!!!!

Not so much of a steel. More like TomTom saying "we don't want you any more. But now we've had second thoughts and would like you to come back."

Navigate to Contact doesn't work for me. TomTom always says it doesn't recognise the address format (or words to that effect). They are all standard UK addresses with postcodes.

After all the wait we have had for the TT app it has to be said expectations were very high
I am so far very disapointed with whats been released. No lane assist, traffic assist, adding pois to name but 3 missing standard "features"
At the price asked they should have provided a blow the others away feature set along with best in class usability
My pda TT6 has a better feature set and is years old !!!
I have been not overly pleased with the 2 apps I have already purchased, Copilot and Navigon and am so ready to buy the "best in class" but for now my money stays in my pocket not in TTs

No doubt it will sell by the bucket load because they are the "market leader" and most "joe public" have heard of TT rather than the other brands

Sad

Exactly the same for me, the addresses I have entered work with the other applications where applicable but not TomTom, still I gave up trying to get this feature working on the TomTom Nav application for PDA based devices a very long time ago!

adding pois

Only Sygic have what I would consider true Custom POI support, but even this needs a jailbroken phone to be effective - Mike

Then consider the iO-Play car kit as I have had no issues with it at all with the various PND units that support Bluetooth and/ or the iPhone or any or my PDA based phones - Mike

The TomTom iPhone website has at last had a 'bells and whistles' makeover at least...

Well, I say that, but you need to remember it's TomTom... They've added a link to the App Store. Nice. Classy. Feel the quality. Like the product itself, half baked and late. here.

No traffic (my TTN6 on N73 had this 3 years ago)

No text-to-speech (never used this though, so could probably live without it)

Unspecified future map updates, they could turn around and charge us again in 6 months? At least tell us the score.

No custom voices (without hacking). I don't know if I could use TomTom without John Cleese Smile

No lane assist

That's poor. No sale.

I know it is very early to ask this but I wondered if anyone who buys TomTom could comment on the following...

How good is the GPS fix? I bought Copilot and am not that impressed with its GPS performance - it seems to lose the signal quite regularly

How smooth is the map scrolling? Again, Copilot hasn't impressed me with the map movements been quite jerky and slow to update

Thanks for your help

I've been using the Betas a long while - whose atributes were slow to initial fix, and sometimes jerky graphics, with annoying watermark, and hideous amonts of logging - but hey it was free and I got a free 3GS when it came out in July. The retail version was instant fix, smooth graphics. A convergence device like this will always be a compromise.

Forgive me, but I don't see why you say this. A challenge, perhaps, but a compromise? TomTom Navigator 5 running on a Palm Treo 600 Smartphone was more capable than this release - and that was back in 2004! We've gone backwards in 4 years despite a more powerful processor, more storage and, IMO, a more modern OS.

The only thing I can't directly blame TomTom for is the continual inability to manage calls in a manner that enables the phone to function as a phone without endangering those trying to Navigate - that's a poor show from Apple in producing a product that is either a phone or a handheld, but not both at the same time. Again, we're back to pre-Palm Treo 600 and pre-2004.

What I see is a half baked attempt to cash in on the iPhone. I don't see progress or TomTom's expertise, just a disregard for the customer. Sorry, just the way I see it.

Navigate to contact works for me.

I don't know why - I didn't do anything - it just works.
