First, thanks for updating the chart and adding to it; your efforts are helping us sort through the growing options for these apps.

Just want to add a correction to the g-map column: there are, in fact, six choices of configurable map colours—three for night and three for day—in addition to the night/day option.

Thanks again!

thanks :D

apologies, It's me that can't understand. For some reason I didn't think it did that for me when I tried! Doh!

A bit late in the day, I know, but I have another suggestion for an extra row called 'Route Overview'. Do they all have a way of quickly seeing at any time an overview of the route and where one is on it? I once used a navigation app that didn't and it was a pain. Do they all show an overview of the route before they launch into navigation mode, so that one can quickly see that it is navigating to the right Richmond, or whatever?

Not a suggestion for a row, but one thing that really irritates me with my Tomtom v5 is that, when I elect to navigate to a point on the map, the map always opens at my home location, even if I'm at the other end of the country, and I have to pan across the country to pick the point. It would be so much more convenient if the map opened centred on one's current location.

I shall soon buy one of these iPhone apps and this table will be a big help. Thank you for all the work.

As far as I'm aware currently none has TTS (Text To Speech) but some, like Navigon, promise it for the next update.

Both Navigon and Sygic have limited TTS in that they are capable of informing you of the road numbers such as A583 or B5038 etc, they don't read out road names though - Mike

Can somebody tell me if I can mute the voice in Navigon (or any of these apps) while maintaining other sounds such as:

- Audio warning cues for speed
- Audio cues for approaching turns (i.e.: as an alternative to voice)
- Background Music from iPod

Basically, the voice option is great when I am alone in the car, but tends to
interrupt conversations or wake my kids on long trips. My Garmin Mobile XT
had an option to play a tone when something was approaching or happening
that would normally trigger the voice to speak.

I just purchased the iGo My Way. It does support iPhone multitouch gesture. I don't understand why the chart says it is lacking iphone gesture. I actually like iGo My Way more than Navigon and Tom Tom due to the intuitive menu and 3D graphics especially the 3D landmark. The route calculation is very efficient too.

The things I have to complain is the long startup loading time but the developer already know and working on it.

It will have Text-To-Speech, Traffic, Light Sensor for Map, and Stop Over features in the next update.

There is also free map update until Dec 2010!

I highly recommend iGo My Way 2009 for North America.

Which features are really important to you, what do you need from the software they all take you to the destination, but some are better than others depending upon what you as an individual require - Mike

Can I suggest a category of the ability to change voice/sounds within the app? I couldn't spot it on the current list.

CoPilot is frustrating because the voice is so loud. TomTom allows you to adjust.
