I have just found that a file on my TT ONE v4 called:

tthome.bif

contains my email address. So if stolen the thief would also have my email address.

Yet another clever bit of programming by TT.

Have removed the file from my unit and all seems okay. Have connected to TT Home and update the unit and the file has not been replaced (yet) Laughing

So if you have your TT stolen and start receiving strange emails you will know who to blame.

How on earth else is it supposed to know where you live unless it stores it somewhere Rolling Eyes . The trick is to put somewhere close, rather than your actuall address Very Happy

Well put M8TJT! Laughing

... and your email address is saved because YOU told it to!
It's there so that you can be logged into "Home" automatically when you connect the device and you have to tick a box before it does that.

ttgo.bif also has information about the device itself, so if you delete it, Home may not automatically offer you the relevant updates, you may have to search fro them yourself.

suppose I deserved a bit of stick for a poorly worded posting - my excuse was that I was rooting around for info after having mine nicked overnight, so not in the best of moods or communicating clearly.

With a bit more time to stand back, my real gripe is that such info is held in plain text and so easily read. Never mind, I shall just sit back and wait for my nicked unit to be brought back based on the home location data so easily found Wink At least the battery is totally stuffed and will annoy the "new owner" as much as it did me.

I tend to use a Gmail email address that contains the device's id. If I pass the device on - the new owner is given the Gmail account as well. This makes it easier for Map and Live subscriptions.

As for the Home address, my "home" is pointing away from my real home. If I want to navigate to my actual home then I use my "Friends & Family" POI category which has my real home POI in it (it is disguised) along with loads of other addresses.

Regards,

That's a GOOD excuse for being grumpy! We'll let you off Smile
and really sorry to hear of your loss.

The idea of using a GMail or similar address based on the device name rather then anything to do with your own is a great one. I wish TomTom had thought of a better system entirely, but even if they could suggest that technique it would be useful.
