Over 2GB of files in the Temp folder. What's that all about. McAfee says all okay after full scan. SpyBot reports nothing on full scan.

Any body know what’s going on.

I have not made any changes to the system in any way. The other strange thing is the log file is dated 29th June, 2009., but all the files only appeared in the Temp folder today.

Have you run any benchmarking programs recently?

Might also be worth scanning with MalwareBytes - here

No. Nothing at all. The last thing I installed was the software for the K1 Inforad. That was on the 24th June, 2009.

What software do you have for (un)zipping files?

Also what is the name of the log file?

I use WinZip 95, a very old program. The log file is from WinZip, called winzip.log

I have used this program on all my systems for the last 10 years or more. Has been on this pc since the day I received it back in Nov, 2007.

I have now deleted the winzip32.ini file, and let it rebuild. But could not see anything in the original file to suggest that it had a problem. Will see what happens over the next few days.

The files that it copied to the Temp directory were not zipped up. They were just copies of the files with a folder name:

eg

Temp_ClearView_landscapes_S1

But each folder had all the files inside and in the correct structure.

Just very odd indeed Confused

Some zip programs have a "demo" mode that lets you check that the files you expected to be in the zipped file are and how much space they take up. Did you have a option set that one time? Either that or it had a problem and didn't delete the temp files for some reason.

Doesn't explain the dates though. Have you been messing about with the system date. [clucks at straws]

No Demo mode as I'm aware of. Not touched the system date ever.

Do you have an R/C Heli? Heli_X_TRex500GF suggests a TRex 500 which is a mid scale R/C Helicopter?

Have you downloaded anything to do with R/C helis? Do any of the other files ring true as something you have downloaded or installed?

Yes I do have several Helicopter simulator programs installed. That is just one.

All the files are correct. It's just that for some reason, WinZip appears to have copied over 1000 different folders on my pc and then put them in the Temp folder. It has not zipped them up. I have a short cut to the Temp folder on my Desktop now, but nothing as appeared again since I deleted them all.

Files in the Temp folder is perfectly normal though, that's a function of the OS. Windows is notoriously lazy about deleting temp files though.

Yes. But these files appeared only yesterday. I know this because I have used a program called Window Washer for many years. I run this program every day, and it usually takes 2 mins to clean up and delete all the rubbish. But yesterday I suddenly noticed it was still running after 5 minuets, so looking at the directory it was deleting I could see all of these files. Over 2GB worth.

I also run my pc with the Windows Classic interface. As I click on My Computer several times a day, I always see the amount of Disk space free. Now this does go down quite a bit, especially when windows makes a restore point. Again I remove all but the last one quite often when I have made a full backup image via Acronis True Image.
