Hello chums, it's been a while.

I bought a TomTom 530T last August, then promptly fell seriously ill (nothing to do with my purchase I hasten to add). Not only did I fall ill, but my PC also died around the same time. The upshot of this was that I had neither the inclination nor the means to update my device until quite recently.

However, since the blurb on the box mentioned a 'Latest Map Guarantee' I wasn't unduly worried, as I could simply update the map once I got up and running again, right? Well, apparently not. The 'guarantee' is only good for a period of 30 days after first activating the device, i.e checking that it works.

Playing email ping-pong with TomTom 'support' has been spectacularly unrewarding, eventually resulting in a recommendation that I simply dosh out a further 55 quid to update from a map that's older than my granny.

My question therefore is, if I were to perform a backup and then delete the current map, would TT Home consequently be forced to seek and install the latest one?

Nope. You'd simply have a unit that will provide you will a 'no maps found' error.
