Hi there

I've not been on line for a very long time but I'm having problems with my N60i. I used the unit with no problems whatsoever for the past 3 years but since I've changed from a Clio to a new Scenic I find that it takes an extremely long time to lock on.

It's probably time to ditch it and get a new one but before I do that I'd like to know if anyone else has had similar problems, and if so how did you get over it ??????

Best wishes

The N60 has the more modern SiRFStarIII chipset so would be unaffected by athermic windscreens.

Once it does acquire a fix is it otherwise OK?

Yes apart from last Friday when we were driving down to Bournemouth and for some reason I completely lost my route although the map was showing on the screen. Once I was able to pull in safely I reset the route and it's been fine ever since.

Regards

Hi Darren

Just got back from a few days in Cornwall and the N60i worked well with the exception that again on a about 4/5 occasions it took way in excess of what I would say is an acceptable time to acquire a fix. The worst time by far was after we had visted a NT property near Dartmouth. No probs getting there but when we left to go to another NT property on Dartmoor, we travelled for about 20 mins at least before it acquired it's fix.

When it does though it works fine. As I said originally in the Clio no trouble at all but it's been happening since I changed to the Scenic.

Any suggestions you or anyone else might have would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

Hmm well it sounds like reception issues but it could be caused by a failing receiver.

Next time it happens, take a look at the signal status and report what it shows? Are you stationary when trying to get a fix?

In the majority of cases I start up and drive away and the fix is usually very fast. Yesterday I did check the satelite status and whilst having about 6/7 red bars the signal strength was quite low.
