Whats a good tomtom for someone who will only need it for uk

Its my brothers birthday soon i was thinking about getting a tomtom,He wont be using it out of the uk.Any suggestions? Smile

What budget do you have?

Models such as the ONe and XL with the UK maps are called Regional. Higher end models such as the x20, x30 and x40 will have models nubers starting with a 5 for UK. i.e. 520, 530, 540....

I dont think he would be bothered at all if he didn't have Bluetooth handsfree, mp3 etc...

The money side of it well im not to sure at the moment how much i would spend,I wouldn't want to spend a great amount but i want to get him one thats going to be good and last,And get him to places without the wrong directions or whatever could go wrong. Smile

TomTom XL IQ Routes Regional Edition here

There is also the One Classic Regional Editionhere

Note: Prices can be much lower than shown in online shops.

The main differences seem to be the XL is just a Widescreen version of the One. The Classic is similar to the One but doesn't have IQ Routes and Lane Guidance, although someone else will probably be able to add more technical differences.

And since solid routing is about the only think that currently works 100% you'd be doing him a favour by keeping it simple and saving him some wasted cash.

The basic models with IQ routes just released look like good solid products and you can't get frustrated trying to get stuff listed on the box to work as advertised!

Have you consider one of These They have IQ Routes and full European maps, BT handsfree and mp3 player (you can leave these features switched off if you don't want/ need them, and you still get a 12 month warranty - you won't be disapointed with one of these - Mike

They will probably have run out of stock by the end of this month let alone waiting till the end of May, if you want a bargain you need to move fast and remember you only get 30 days to use the latest map guarantee before it expires - I see little point purchasing an XL IQ for more cash that one of these more capable devices cost - choice is yours though - Mike

Just a thought,Can this be charged when connected to the computer,Its £150 so i dont really want to buy him a case and charger,I think he can do that,There doesn't seem to be any deals for a bag+charger.

You should get a Home Dock with it. When plugged into the PC and the TT placed on the dock, the TT will ask if you wish to connect to the PC. If you say yes you can use Home or Windows Explorer to update the unit.

If you say no, the TT will sit there and charge. After a few minutes it'll switch off if you do nothing to sped up charging.

These units are best used on the car charger any way. The battery is really only for use out of the car such as preparing routes etc Battery life isn't that great...

Yes i have heared its best to use on the car charger,I just wanted to update everything for him,And to give it to him fully charged so he can mess around with it as soon as he opens it. Smile

What bag do you recommend are they all the same?
